Brad is just stiff, and is a cheerleader. Sure he can yell when there is a tremendous play. So What? If he loosened up,he might be palatable.

I don't agree. But, even if I did, there's not a single sports personality in this market with the talent or intelligence to adequately replace him. You start offering up names and this conversation becomes a joke pretty quickly.

Badmouth Brad Sham all you want to but please do this first. Listen to BaD Radio's Homer Call of the Week some Thursday and then tell us you heard something to replace him with.

Charlie has been a disappointment so far. He is a good interview or guest on a talk show but so far his color work has been weak at best. Make you wonder if Dale Helistrae (sp) might not have been a better choice.

They could always bring Hanson back. ::)

Boy do I wish! the Brad and Dale team from the 80s was awesome!

The name I mention Texas Radio Hallof fame Inductee ;Bill Mercer. He beats Sham, hands down. He originally did the Cowboy play by Play in the 60's-70's.

If he did cowboys games in the 60's, unless he was doing them as a pre-teen, doesn't that make him like, older than dirt? If you're Jerry do you really want to put a social security recipeint in your booth? If nothing else, aren't you always wondering when they're going to quit..when they (Like Summerall did a few years back) just 'lose it' on air and be REALLY REALLY bad at pxp?

I guess you've got more Bob Hope specials in your home video library than Chris Rock concerts.

That's your taste. And you're welcome to it.

But nobody would take that swap seriously.

Nah Bob Hope Christmas specials grew stale 30 years ago. If you had listen to Bill this past summer on a Frisco Rough Rider broadcast, you would probably change your perception. Brad Sham also did a few Rough Rider broadcasts, and the response was, a majority prefered Bill over Brad.
FYI, You may already Know Scott Garner and Bill Mercer won a Katie a couple of weeks back for best play by Play. So It appears my opinion is not in the minority.

Sham wins it every other or third year. The Katie folks award other guys now and then just to retain an air of fairness in the competition.

Well Smokering, I don't feel the "Katie" award simply hands out the trophies every other year to be fair. C'mon give them a little credibility and respect. Sham deserved his awards in the past, and he is knowledgable. His presentation if lined up side by side with Milo Hamilton of the Astros,Bill Mercer, and even Vin Scully would pale in comparision. You like Brad, that's fine. If you have a chance to listen to old broadcasts of him and Dale Hansen, then you will see a remarkable difference in his style compared to now. Then he was relaxed and fun,now its all business, and that makes for a boring presentation.

My point is that you shouldn't expect Mercer to win too many more--if any. Meanwhile, Sham will likely win again and again and again...

And let's get real here. Calling baseball is much different from football. Sham was nothing special as a Rangers announcer. But he shines with football. And there's no doubt that he and Hansen were as good of a football team as you're ever going to find.

But the absence of Hansen in the booth doesn't mean Sham needs to be replaced.

True Bill is getting up there ( he's 81 now), but he still has it. Football and Baseball are two different sports, however how they are called use the same techniques. Brad will win many more awards,I have no doubt, nor do I call for his removal. I really find him as being all business ,and not as a fan. Bill,Milo, and even Harry Carrey lightened up and related in describing the game as a fan. John Madden,Mike Ditka as well.
I believe if you remove the stiffness in Brad'sstyle ,he could be a lot better than what he is presently,Of course if you have the right "color guy" it adds volumes.

One replacement for Brad jumps to mind. Rangers play-by-play man Josh Lewin handles pbp for the NFL's San Diego Chargers and he's excellent. I personally feel he calls football better than baseball.

As for the color replacement for good ole Charlie how about Drew Pearson or from the broadcast ranks what about the Ticket's George Dunham?

I think Blue Star Media should have hired Darren Woodson for the color analyst position. Woody prolly did not want to give up that ESPN check. But he would have been perfect on the radio.
