CBS2 & KCAL 9 LAYOFFS

from the Tuesday, April 1 Hollywood Reporter:

CBS Corp. is doing some belt-tightening at its TV news and TV stations businesses.

Among the dozen or so let go at KCBS/KCAL were anchors Harold Greene and Ann Martin, reporters Jamie Garza, Jennifer Davis, Greg Phillips and Jennifer Sabih and executive producers Matt Kallinger and Kerry Brace. There were also cuts in sales, traffic and possibly among news writers and stage managers.

BTW... there is an L.A. TV board down the way here on Radio-info, though I am not opposed for posting issues such as this on here.

I am sure Greene and Martin will end up somewhere, or perhaps they'll just bow-out like many have.

I am still a bit surprised they cut L.A. broadcasting legends Greene and Martin, but like the way of the wind of this business is going nothing is sacred anymore. The only thing certain in this business is everything always changes when you least expect it.

I am sure they've both invested their many of earned dollars over the years and they'll be okay.

To tie this in to L.A. radio... well if 100.3 does what some think it may do, Bonnieville should double-time their people to get on the telephone with the now departed L.A. anchors' people.

I do remember back in the distant days of my youth back in Ohio that mostly you saw the same faces on the news at whatever channel you chose for you local news. You had a sort of trust and believed in those news people. Then came the days of the perky woman and smiling happy men co anchors and the landscape changed. Women were put out to pasture sooner, usually, and everyone had their air-checks and resumes out to get that better job in a bigger market while they could. SO when something like this occurs to people who had longevity despite all of the odds it is more shocking to me.

Anyway if there is to be a new radio news operation in town there are some talented people now available to start it off. I think some field reporters also were shown the door.
