CBS3 thinking about adding 10pm news to CW Philly

Makes sense, and should have been though Dr.Phil programming was "in the way". Now, would the Dr.Phil second run air 10:30-11:30p then? Or perhaps Dr.Phil moves to WPHL? Though Tribune may be unable to buy syndicated programming for WPHL, as they are bankrupt.

No, Dr. Phil will not be moving PHL. He's locked in with CBS for several more years.

And Channel 3 wants to steal Fox viewers by putting Dave Huddleston head to head against his former broadcast. I'm thinking Channel 3 will get move viewers on CW at 10 then NBC10 gets on My PHL.

Laura Nachman is reporting that the newscast will premiere Feb 2.

Agreed. Also, there would be more savings and profit since 3 and 57 are co-owned. It'd probably put the Ch.17 powered by NBC10 newscast to rest, though at one time WPHL has a hour news, CN8 did an hour (though CN8 news was Philly but tried to focus on the greater region), so there were 3 Philly newscasts competing.

For real competition, they need Action News to run the 10 pm news on 17. I know it'll never happen...just saying it would be an interesting scenario in 'imaginary land.'

Don't say "never" - WTVD/11 in Raleigh/Durham, NC does the 10pm newscast for WLFL/22 and KGO/7 in San Francisco does the 9pm newscast for KOFY/20.

2 ABC O&O stations producing prime-time newscasts on other stations.

It could happen - all depends on "the powers that be"...

Channel 6 could put Action News at 10pm on WPVI-DT2. It's carried on Comcast & Verizon and in a month, anyone who is watching OTA TV. Would the network allow them to do do that against ABC programming? They sometimes have ESPN Plus games on 6.2 against other sports programming on 6.1. When channel 6.2 first came out, they reran the 6pm news at 8pm I think. It was great. I was never home at 6pm for Action News and I liked watching the rerun.

"Never" was more a figure of speech. I know it's possible, but the odds seem highly unlikely for the forseeable future at least. I had always hoped Disney would buy channel 48 and turn it into a channel 6 lite, complete with live newscasts at different times (primetime, 7 am, etc.).

I loved the 8pm replay too, as I'm rarely home at 6. But anything on a subchannel wouldn't be worth the investment when it comes to original programming. I do wish they'd do something to spruce up 6.2 (understanding the desire not to cannibalize the main channel), but separate newscasts don't seem like the logical answer right now.

You're not the only one in Philly that was hoping Disney bought channel 48. What a waste it is now. All so that they could get coverage on cable. Maybe they can do it with DTV on 6.2.

Maybe with the digital conversion, more people will be aware of the sub-channels. I was flipping by a couple of nights ago and Lost was on 6.2. Also, why can't channel 6 put network programming on 6.2 when the preempt programming for local programming?

I've seen them run some of the same syndie fare (the Lost reruns, and movies come to mind) on 6.2 that also air on 6.1. Moving the network shows over would be nice for those with access to 6.2, and by all means, if you still want to run the bumped shows at 3 am for those without, go for it. And bessides moving the network shows over, how about the syndicated shows. I mean, I get it that folks like seeing the sports specials, but I still want to see Jeopardy or Wheel, so let us get it, and then you keep all of the sports audience plus the game show fans, for one example.

The rest of the syndie fare on 6.2 looks like it's bargain basement cr...p that someone gave WPVI just for the sake of saying they're clearin Philly on WPVI (Style by Jury? Seriously?).

I looked at my guide for Feb. 2 week:

Dr.Phil rerun moves to 10am.
Judge Mathis moves to 11am.

Eyewitness News starts at 10pm.
Entertainment Tonight rerun at 10:30pm.

CW57 is now promoting the start of CBS3 Eyewitness news on CW57 at 10.
