What was everyone's impression of Ken's first few appearances? I am out of town today and missed it.

<font color=green>Didn't see his presentation, as he was only introduced by Mich, and chated briefly;she did the forecast. Lobel giddy for some reason,a little too happy to see Jack I guess?

Seems like nice enough guy, but his forecasting skills won't be put to a test this week. They did a soft start by introducing him on every newscasts but Mish ran the weather segment. He really starts on Monday.

Another change. They finally figured out that vanilla Lisa doesn't have any clue about sports and her reporte with Lobel has been simply awful for years. Her and Lobel could never click. Liz and Bob was a pretty dynamic act in its day, but Lisa's lack of enthusiasm for local or national sports is sorely obvious. So she'll be intro-ing the new weather guy and leaving the sports chit-chat to the two geezers on the set(Lobel and Williams).

I agree about the anchor seating change... Lisa never developed a reporte with Lobel, and their exchanges at the beginning and end of sports were always awkward... sometimes even painful to watch. Jack and Lobel obviously go way back, and Jack will have a much easier time "handling" Lobel's sometimes unusual behavior. Having Jack there may also keep Lobel in line a little bit more. The station is probably also hoping that Lisa and Ken Barlow develop a flirty, or at least dynamic relationship. I think this seat change is for the best; it should make things a little more smooth.

I take issue with your description of Lisa as "vanilla", however. She may be no Natalie Jacobson, but she is a damn good anchor - very smooth delivery, personable demeanor, and she works well with just about any male coanchor that the station throws at her. She may be a little "too cute" from time to time, but I would take her anyday over ice queens Natalie Jacobson and Cat Bandini.

I agree that Liz and Natalie are a bit on the "masculine" side!

I know Cat doesn't come across as all that warm on-air, but it's actually a little known fact that she's a total sweetheart off-air - very shy but still lovely.

Ken Barlow looks like a younger version of Barry Burbank. Hard to tell what he will be like. I think he said he is from Rhode Island but fortunately he does not come with that annoying RowDieLand accent which sounds like bad Brooklynese.

Still in all, he doesn't seem any better than Ed Carroll whose very size gave him a presence on the TV screen. Barlow seems to be on the slight size as is Burbank. Makes one wonder why they would drop Carroll for Barlow. It is a wash at best.

As to Lisa Hughes who is commented on below, she has become one of Ch. 4's greatest assests. She recently married one of the widowers of the September 11'th World Trade Center Plane disaster and she now has several young step-children. Hughes has become active in community affairs off the air and seems to be aware and interested in events beyond the TV studio. I think she has grown over the past several years and surpassed Sarah Underwood with whom I don't think any true American can find fault.

IMHO I think Ch4 is on its way back in the ratings

Stick to the weather, Paul. She only has one stepdaughter.

To help you to connect the dots, she was in NYC on 9/11
and reported from there for 4(her and Joyce Kulhawik took
the early shuttle that same morning to meet with a
TV consultant in Manhattan). A couple years later, she
was introduced to Mike Casey by a mutual friend, Ted Wayman.
Casey's first wife was killed onboard Flight 11 on 9/11.

Despite how they keep promoting her, she still lacks the leading lady
on-air presence. Wasn't that why they hired Carrigan?!
Sorry to ruin your day/night.

As for Underwood, she's got the looks but she's not prime time material
until she can learn how to read the prompter. Still way too many on-air
bumbles. Anyone you talk to in the local TV circles knows how bad of
a reader she is.

Back to where?

Thanks, just tried to post something positive and got shot down with a personal attack. Suppose I should just ignore off point and bizarre responses.
