CBS5 Eyewitness News

I had never seen this before, last night 5/30/12
I was watching KPIX 11PM news. After sports
with the 4 minutes before Letterman, they ran
Honda, Toyota, Chevrolet, Honda (again), Toyota
commercials, in that order. Unbelievable!

Why doesn't anyone ever say, "CBS 5, Eyewitness News"?
Reporters and Anchors only say, "CBS 5".
Why even bother calling it Eyewitness News?

I've wondered that too - all the other stations have dropped the flashy titles ("NewsCenter, Action News, NewsScene, etc.). I recall that when KPIX was doing the early prime schedule in the 90s, they changed the name to "KPIX 5 News at 10:00" (or 6:00), partially to publicize KPIX radio. But when both those fiascos were over, they went back to "Eyewitness News." bucking the trend.

I know KYW in Philadelphia the CBS O&O in that market still say "CBS3 Eyewitness News" I know Group W TV stations had the Eyewitness News name going back to 1965 when Al Primo was News Director at KYW 3 before Al Primo went to ABC to become the News Director at WABC 7 and brought the Eyewitness News name to ABC. I know KABC and WABC still use the Eyewitness News name.

Also on the 11pm edition of "Eyewitness News", Why do they waste my time!
After Sports they go to commercials, only to come back for 15 seconds to sit there straightening their papers, then another commercial and seque to Letterman.

So un-professional.
