cbshartford.com

Going to wtic.com takes you to cbshartford.com. So far only WTIC 1080 is on the portal, but I am assuming other stations will be added later. The NY CBS radio stations plus WCBS-TV are on cbsnewyork.com

These consolidated CBS websites, such as the ones in New York and the aforementioned one in Philadelphia, usually contain spoken word (news/talk/sports) stations and a co-owned TV station, if any.

Makes no sense to have cbshartford.com host just one station's website. They're better off just sticking with wtic.com.

Makes no sense to have all the stations on one website. It's being done all over the country, and it may be good marketing to advertisers, to let them know what kind of platform CBS has, but it muddies the water for the stations trying to create unique brands. Domain names are cheap and there are plenty of ways to share content while giving the stations their own online identities. Just crazy.

I agree with you about the Hartford cluster because there's only one information station with three music station. I think cbsnewyork.com works well as an information portal because of CBS2, WCBS, WINS and WFAN.

An announcer on WTIC the other days said go to the revamped wtic.com, but don't be confused by cbshartford.com name.

That depends... Is Meredith selling? Because logically, that would be the only station that CBS would be interested in purchasing. Maybe they can throw some cash at Tribune for the calls on Channel 61, while they're at it, to match the calls of the AM station...

CBSCharlotte.com. Interesting... all but one of the stations there are music stations. The lone non-music station, "America's Talk 1660" is, as the name might suggest, a bird-fed, low-rated station. Why they'd take out a domain only for that station (when such domains are usually reserved for non-music entities) is beyond me...

Went to cbshartford.com yesterday while at the local library and it told me I wasn't authorized to be on the site. As for the site, what are they going to do, pimp their awful lineup of the drugster, blow dry boy, Vicevich the ignorant and the ex-felon governor who somehow manages never to be unemployed in this state?

CBS has really focused on bigger radio markets than Hartford. If the Hartford cluster weren't so dominant here at a time when stations aren't fetching a premium price, they probably would have sold them already. Unlike radio, Hartford, New Haven and even New London are all one TV market. They would probably brand themselves "CBS Connecticut" if a TV station were added. I have my doubts that will happen. Sure, many of the big radio stations have signals blanketing much of the state (WTIC-AM does New Haven traffic), but for sales purposes they emphasize Hartford (market #50) unless they're right on top of New Haven or Bridgeport.

Whether we agree with them or not, Jim Vicevich and John Rowland are very familiar names in state media. One faced down serious medical issues and the other served his jail time. We only have to look to Rhode Island and New York to see disgraced politicians make big media comebacks. We are fascinated by how the mighty can fall, but Americans do like stories of redemption as well. If WTIC Rush lost tomorrow, they would be just fine with their local connection. Personally, I miss hearing more of a mix of political views on one media outlet the way WABC, WRKO, KFI and WMCA used to be, but that's business I guess.

CBS Radio also has sports radio WFNZ 610 The Fan in Charlotte, NC

@GlennO: I've heard Vicevich comment on his show that he's maintaining his current health condition, and when it comes to taking time to keep his health in check, CBS has always come through with their support. And if WTIC lost Rush, well, depending on what Clear Channel does with 97.9 in Springfield, MA, it could be against their will, but... with the established talent on WTIC, I agree, they'll be all right.

@Necrat: The other domain websites (e.g. cbsnewyork.com) also redirect to a "cbslocal" page.

@Ken: How can I forget the former "Franchise" which served as a simulcast with 1660 AM. Thanks!
