CBS's Dick Van Dyke in Color....

Yes, and it was Season 1, episode 2! I have to admit the color restoration is very good here, but I lost interest after about 15 minutes. Only because the novelty of "color" wears off pretty quickly, and then you are just watching an old sitcom, albeit a good old sitcom. I like the concept, but the I Love Lucy color show in the earlier hour tonight was aired either last Christmas or the year before. In some sense, these shows are being reinvented to something that most don't remember. Novel, but not the originals that we all have grown to love.
I watched both shows but particularly enjoyed Dick Van Dyke. It reminded me how gorgeous Mary Tyler Moore was when she was younger. And what a great comedian DVD is. I think the producers could have chosen better episodes for ILL since these two were nowhere near their best work.
And, as a child growing up in the 50's I was chagrined to watch those terrible dresses, hats and gloves on the women. It wasn't that way where I was raised. Feminists must have been grinding their teeth every time one of the wives were introduced at the fashion show. Mrs. (husband's name).

It made sense to show the I Love Lucy Christmas special now, but the Dick Van Dyke special could have been done at any time since it really isn't Christmas related.
I am not one of those people who believe a sitcom needs to mimic the current holiday period. I would have much rather seen an ILL episode which was more representative of their work than that lame Christmas episode.
My younger wife had never seen the "Lucy has a Baby" episode and laughed her head off at the pandemonium when it was time to head to the hospital.
Did you ever watch one of those 50s - 60s films advising women on how to treat their men when they came home from work? You can probably find some of them on You Tube. The advice was essentially: (1) Make sure the house is clean and dinner is on the table when he walks in; (2) Never repeat the same meal within one week, or (horrors!) serve leftovers; (3) Make sure you shower, do your hair, and put on a fresh dress before he arrives, (4) Never EVER talk about your stressful day. All you did was cook and clean, when he had to deal with the high-stress man's world...and; (5) Don't get mad if he's grumpy or uncommunicative because of all that stress he had to endure; and so on...
