How about Country, Oldies and Soft AC.

I realize there are demo challenges connected to the first two but that would still be better than what they have going on now.

I don't think the original WYNY (97.1/103.5) ever sunk to 1.5 as a country station.

How about:

92.3 Free FM: You must give it a chance, but I think it will fail.
Sunny 101.1 New York's Favorites of the 60s, 70s, and 80s, go all Christmas before Lite FM. (I got to stop dreaming!)

I don't know about Mix though.

I like your idea about what to do with WCBS-FM which I have said before. But how about a station just like the CBS station in Charlotte, NC WKQC.
Sunny 101.1 New York's Cool Music Station
I can see this happening more now. CBS Radio did this they would compete with WLTW very well.

As for Free anyone up for Kicks 92.3, if country doesn't work CBS can change it. Its not like they have something to lose if they try this right. Its better then hearing DLR in the morning on Free-FM.

Jesus, enough with the country fixation. What is it some kind of sh*t kicker cult?. It's New York !!!!!! are you on the Branson Missouri board too crowing about how there is not a hip hop station there?.

I know I know Branson is so backwater they dont have a radio info board!.

I agree. Even Krock wouldnt be as bad as Free is doing right now. Maybe a reversal wouldnt be that bad of an idea. Too bad you cant just 'move' stations...like WKZQ. (sorry, I like that station. ;) )

Where do I sign up for that?!? That would be a great idea and I think would work well.

Havent come up with a solution, but competing dance stations, classic or current, arent working.

Who cares about all of this anyway.... corporate/management are going to do what THEY want to do with formats anyway!!! This is why I have satellite radio in the first place! I have all the country/oldies/classic rock that I can stand!

I couldn't agree more....I find very little music to listen to on NY radio but I find nothing wrong with it. That's why there is a switch called OFF on every radio.

It's called an alternative (sat radio),and I find it well worth the modest price. If your not happy with one source of entertainment find something else.
I would like to see country music return to NYC radio. I also would like to have easy listening(beautiful music, whatever label you choose) return. I don't listen to it but there are loyal listeners that do and possibly sponsors as well. Just my thoughts.

I couldn't agree with you more!!!!!!!!!!! Enough about country!! I live in Manhattan and have never even heard anyone mention or discuss country music but if you went by this board you'd think that there were millions of New Yorkers clamouring to get a country music station.

...and yes, why don't you go to some board like South Dakota and post about the lack of a hip, hop station in Sioux Falls!!!<P ID="signature">______________

My original post and country suggestion was merely to point out that it would almost have to do better than what is happening at the CBS FMs now.

And I guess you are correct in your assessment of the country listener. Can't compare to the sophistication and class that David Lee Roth (and his predecessor) bring to table.

If (an that's a big "if") CBS only had a brain....

92.3 reclaims the K-Rock monikker and goes active rock.... jetissons DLR in the morning and goes music-intensive.

101.1 returns to an oldies format.... but a bit updated. The new "CBS-FM" would hire some of the jocks that were around in the 70's or early 80's and focus their playlist from 1970 to 1990 with the hottest rotation being music from '75 to '85. They'd reach back to the 60's or 50's for a few really "evergreen" songs (think Chuck Berry, Elvis, Beatles, and Motown) during the week and maybe do some Saturday/Sunday evenings highlighting the older stuff.

102.7... hmmmmmmmmm.... what HAVEN't they tried? A "classic hits" format in the vein of Chicago's "Drive" built on 102.7's heritage mighe be a good compliment to the new 101.1 while chippin away a few numbers from WAXQ. A mainstream, personality-driven AC format might be a struggle to establish, but could drive a nice wedge between PLJ and Lite. Eiter format should have very saleable demos. A dark horse would be country. Play the hits and have a bunch of second-string jocks to time/temp/liners. It might only grow to a 2-share but as the only game in town could grow to 8-figure billing with a very low overhead. Country seems to work everywhere around New York. Go 60 miles in any direction and you'll pick up a successful country station out of Philly, Waterbury, Allentown, or Atlantic City. Don't tell me NY audiences are too sophisticated.... bull!!!

I agree, 92.3 should go active rock just like 104.9 in albany. It should be "NY's real rock radio" 92.3 K-Rock.

Sunny 104.5 is a nice oldies type station without being imaged as "oldies"...though that's ClearChannel, it'd be nice to see if CBS Radio would do that...

btw, for thsoe keeping track, CBS Radio owns 5 FMs in Chicago: WUSN 99.5 (US 99, Chicago's Country station - which does fine in the midwest), WBBM-FM 96.3 B-96 (long heritage, but weak as of late as a CHR-Rhythmic) which is in the middle of the pack...and the 3 lowest rated full power FMs in that market:

WJMK 104.3 (Jack), WXRT 93.1 (AAA - another format that works in some palces, but isn't often brought up for NYC...I wouldn't mind seeing it), and WCKG 105.9 (Free FM)...way to go...
