CC ABOUT TO LAUNCH FM NEWS STATION?

I was listening to 790 around 2 this afternoon, and Jorge Sedano spoke of receiving a Clear Channel memo that went to most of, if not all of the building instead of only the marketing persons it was intended for. It contained a new logo for an up coming FM News Station ala WIOD.

Happy Holidays, the Clear Channel Corporate Vacuum is about to clean out an FM'er. :-\[/b

Come on... did you really expect anyone over at Clear Channel to do things in a competent or intelligent way? Of course, they fumbled and bumbled by "announcing" to the entire compound's staff, when, it seems none of them were aware these changes were coming. I have a feeling it will just be WIOD moved to the FM dial, which shouldn't make much of a difference, since no one has been listening to that programming to begin with. Rush, Hannity, Jimmy Cefalo, and some paid programming on an FM dial? Can Arbitron really score that low? The station would need a complete and total overhaul, but can you really expect that from the same people who couldn't even figure out how to properly send out an e-mail?

Bye bye, Love 94. It was nice knowing you, although your death will be completely in vain for the launch of this.

We will Miss Love 94 of course it has never been the same since it was WWWL :) For those who can remember.

.....not that the fact that Love has been doing All Christmas wasn't a sign that its' days were numbered.

Remember the last station to "Deck The Halls" of Riviera Blvd. was Mega 103.5 right before the Beat debuted.

Oh great, the Wonderful Isle Of Dementia returns to the FM band. ;D Too bad this didn't happen when Cox owned them and when there was no streaming. Not to mention when they were actually good.

RIP WIOD, WAXY-FM, Zeta, SHE, Love. Beware Y-100, the Clear Channel brain trust may have some brilliant ideas for them, too. ::)

Anyway, I'll miss WLVE and wish the remaining staff much luck in the new year if this, in fact, happens.

Yeah, this should have happend about 15 years ago when WIOD had Rick and Suds, Neil Rogers, and Phil Hendrie as their local line-up. Plus the Dolphins & Canes and Sport Talk 610.

If WIOD moves to FM, what will CC do on 610? I think the market needs another AM sports station...four is never enough!

Every year Love 94 has been doing Christmas music (Thanksgiving through Christmas) as long as I can remember (at least 2001). They should dump Mega 94.9. If you look at the Arbitrons, all the other spanish stations are on top and poor Mega is all the way at the bottom.

It looks to be the real deal. I'm told that email was leaked all over the country and the person who did it is now looking for work. The people I know who work at CC Miami (who, as I've said before, actually exist) tell me that it's going to be Love 94 but one of them also mentioned The Beat as the sacrificial lamb. Again, who knows? Wait until the first of the year and see what happens. Either way the question now is will they waste that 98kw signal with canned programming or give more local talk a shot?

Again, 610 has to sacrifice its' North Bay Village TX site, so the move to FM is probably a way to 'fix things'.

And no, as far as I can remember, the last time LVE did All Christmas was during Nov/Dec. 2001...It has not been every year...I know Mega 103.5 did it in 2002 and they certainly did not do it for 2004 when I was on air at Zeta and had to babysit Love's automation on the weekends during that Holiday season (tho they did manage to have more Christmas lights in that studio than in the other CC stations' studios).

Although based on 12 + numbers Mega should probably be the one to go, David E. has already done a breakdown and shown that actually on 18-34 numbers Mega is the clear winner and on 25-54 numbers the difference between Love and Mega is marginal.

It's a damn shame to lose the Jazz station and keep yet another Spanish station on air. Sorry for the confusion, MEGA 1035 did do it in 2002. Why did I think LVE did it every year? It must have been the 949 music. Speaking of Christmas music, and this does happen every year, why do both SUNNY and KOOL both feel the need to compete with Christmas music?

Why is that? The market is now half Hispanic, with a large percentage being Spanish dominant and bilingual.

Why be defensive? It's called variety of which South Florida lacks.

Sirius XM all the way!!

And WMGE does just that... it is a different and unduplicated format in Spanish.

Interesting point David drew regarding the market being half Hispanic and so if another non-Hispanic station falls by the wayside, oh well.

Certainly, I believe everyone would agree that overall, radio in virtually every market of the country does not fully represent the diversity and overall population of the community. And while I don't want to get into another 25-54 because it has been beaten to death, there is a huge percentage of the South Florida population that is unrepresented because of the billing rules. And that is just one demo.

There are duplications and/or similarities in formats and South Florida is not unique in that regard. I agree with one of the earlier comments that this is just another case where market formats lack variety. No offense to anyone but South Florida's Hispanic community is well represented on the radio. Enough already!

You are very welcome, Muzik.

Apologies for another almost immediate post but I forgot the intent of what promted me to write in the first place regarding the string subject.

I fully understand business decisions but in the case of Love 94, there is a lot of history and no doubt a special place for many. Love 94 was among the stations I listened to regularly when I had moved to S Fla. I always thought it was as close to the soundtrack of the South Florida lifestyle as anyone could get - laid back and classy cool.

I fondly recall listening to Jim Kelly in my PM drive home. My job was a pressure cooker and as much as I rocked with Y-100 and 96X, I found Jim the perfect company on the way home. What a smooth relaxing voice. I recall too how often I heard the station when I was out and about at various businesses and restaurants. Memories can never be taken away by so called progress.

Because Ken Charles has done such a stellar job programming WIOD and WINZ, they're awarding him with an FM signal? Way to fail upwards.

And the rumors keep on flying!

Latest word: 12/26

New Format: Unknown!
