CC Cuts in Memphis

S

save yourself

I have yet to hear of any bad news today and was curious to learn if everyone has survived.

Some years ago, novelist Nicholas Meyer wrote a Sherlock Holmes pastiche entitled, "The Seven Per Cent Solution." Today, Clear Channel, under cover of the Obama inauguration and all that news coverage, instituted its own 7% solution by laying off 7% of its workforce. Most cuts will be in sales as reported in this Wall Street Journal article:

I've heard rumors, but nothing concrete as far as Memphis is concerned, but the axe will swing through the Bluff City you can be sure. Good luck to all!

I understand 10 were released today - none from programming as yet, but more are expected.

All Clear Channel announcers have been fired. Steve Conley has been hired to voice track all CC programs.

I'm setting here tonight listening to the Classic Soul on WDIA's Internet Stream, here in Gallatin, TN. I didn't realize that WDIA was "jockless" at night. Sounds like an "Urban Jack" to me. When did WDIA/Clear Channel start this up? I thought WDIA had jocks on at night. I like the music, but AT LEAST, somebody could have voice tracked it!

Well good ole Cheap Channel. I hope Bobby Ojay's job is secure! If Clear Channel tries to run him off, I believe half of Memphis will explode! His much more entertaining to listen to than Tom Joyner! I heard this week cuts at Clear Channel Nashville happen this week. What's next??? ???
