CC dumps libtalk in SA

Ohio Media Watch has scooped an AllAccess.com report that Clear Channel is flipping progressive talker KRPT/92.5 in the San Antonio market to an outlet carrying "Texas music", under the moniker "92.5 The Outlaw".

New station: http://www.925theoutlaw.com/main.html

Since launched March 17, KRPT has pulled a no-show in the San Antonio Arbitrons. This leaves the format to Palm Broadcasting's KTXX in distant Karnes City which doesn't put a 60dBu signal anywhere near the metro.

Seeing that apparently no one here was listening, the flip takes format king Ed Schultz, Jerry Springer, Stephanie Miller (who was delayed), CC talker Phil Hendrie, WOR's Lionel, Alan Colmes, and Doug Stephan out of homes in San Antonio, likely without replacement. Although, seeing that KTXX airs all-AAR, they will likely assume the Springer clearance. Also, it has been noted that while rival Border Media Partners has cleared straight AAR feeds throughout Texas, that others, perhaps Palm, has less allegiance to taking content right off the bird, and may be open to picking up Schultz as he becomes available.

FWIW, I don't have much difficulty picking up a listenable signal on 103.1 on my vehicle radios as I travel around the north side of SA. (It's only a little noisier than BOB-FM.)

IMO, if KRPT's genteel libtalk lineup wasn't registering in SA, AAR's scorched-earth programming wouldn't have a prayer here. I wouldn't expect AAR to show up on any local BMP outlets.

It's nice that we have a Texas country station (a nice break from all the crappy top 40/ "rap" stations in SA. My problem is that it's kinda close to 92.1 KNBT in New Branfuels. And it's not like 92.5 comes in clear around town anyways, 92.1 comes in better actually, especially around the 281/1604 area, where 92.5 doesn't really come in all too clear. This can be a success if they can obtain a better transmitter or boost up power. What area is this station being broadcasted anyways?

Hope they do good, I can recieve KNBT a lot better of course up near Austin, but I can recieve 92.5 as well pretty good most of the time, it would be interesting to see how that music plays out. I wish KVET would play a litttle more Texas music.

Been listening to this station all day today, both on the web and off the air. First, the air signal needs to be in stereo. The web stream sounds awesome! Second, this station is nothing like KNBT. KNBT is Americana. The Outlaw is Texas Country. There seems to be some crossover but the focus is on Texas artists. I hope it stays that way. It's hard to believe this is a Clear Channel Station. All local music. Wow!

KRPT is licensed to Devine with the transmitter in Pearsall. 50KW. IIRC they are locked in and cannot upgrade. I can get them pretty well in my house near Potranco and 1604. They also seem pretty clear in Boerne where I was at Today for Thanksgiving. My redneck cousin listened with me for a while today. I think he's hooked. I know he set a button in the F150.

The funny thing is...when KRPT launched, and observers found out they would not carry any AAR programming, it'd been assumed that BMP would clear AAR separately on KZDC/1250 in San Antonio itself. I must have heard that rumor from at least three unconnected sources at the time...this was long before the Karnes City FM outlet picked up the network.
