CC Evolution brand of dance now in Miami at Evolution 93.5

Just listened to them launch at midnight via the web stream. Sounded great. They are imaging it as "Evolution 9-3-5".

Evolution in Boston must be doing well enough for Clear Channel to duplicate it in Miami.

The more "Evolutions" pop up in the US, the better economies of scale CC will realize. In other words, overhead expenses will decrease. That means the "breakeven" point for advertising income is less. We might prefer local talent over a jukebox with minimal voicetracking, but if this approach yields more Dance stations, I'm for it. Consider that Party performed reasonably well for Cox with that approach, it makes sense to go this route. I just don't think the success of a Dance Top 40 depends on a full airstaff as much as Top 40 does.

It's very positive news for the community!! Who ever thought we'd see the day that CC would operate two aggressive dance stations in major Metro markets?

Clear Channel also owns evolution1067.com...

Wouldn't shock me if that was for the CC-owned 106.7 in Columbus. It recently did a tower change, is currently losing to the locally-owned alternative station, and rumors of a change have been flying for almost a year. Columbus is 2nd only to Boston in college student population.

That would be great! Would also love to see it in LA, Denver, Phoenix, NYC, Minneapolis....everywhere!

It IS in L.A. on KIIS-HD2. But based on Boston and Miami, if there are going to be more Evolution stations on terrestrial radio I believe CC will end up placing it on weak frequencies. And if CC has strong enough stations in their specific markets, then Evolution will wind up on HD. I could see that happen down the road in New York, most likely WKTU-HD2.

There are some, AND I WHOLEHEARTEDLY AGREE, DOWN TO MY FATHER'S GRAVE!, that would want such a station on a powerful frequency that can cover an entire market instead of translators; that the dance music community deserves that. But for now, let's just take what we can get and improve on that. Just the fact that a major radio corporation is at least "testing the waters" with this is a positive start. Should more "Evolutions" pop up, perhaps other major radio corporations who have stations that aren't doing too well could consider that or a similar dance format down the road.
