CC Finally Gets It

CC's decision to sell off smaller markets is actually a blessing in disguise. If you didn't see this coming, then you are in denial. It's been an abusive relationship since CC moved into the smaller markets gathering up as many stations as the FCC would allow. For some reason we think that there is a high level of job security because a corporate giant has taken the reins. Often, the opposite happens. The business model for most corporate entities is to trim the fat and a little bit of the meat. Look at most any industry and you'll see the same thing happen time and time again. When CC moved into the market all those year's ago, many of us in the business said CC's business paradigm cannot work longterm. We were right.

Of course the best that the CC staff in Bangor and Augusta can hope for are better caretakers...they do exist. I am now hopeful that there will be a resurgence in live radio and localism.

I'm referring to CC as corporate caretakers, not the local managers that are hired to keep an operation running...if that is indeed what you are eluding to.

Local managers generally pour their lives into a job, spending countless hours for the greater good of the company. In the end, however, the manager and the many personal sacrifices that were ever made are quickly forgotten about, as is the manager.
