CC fires some over pay-for-play - but where?

Caught this at R&R's site this morning:

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.radioandrecords.com/Newsroom/2005_10_11/ccfires.asp>http://www.radioandrecords.com/Newsroom/2005_10_11/ccfires.asp</a>

Apparently they've let go some people over pay-for-play, based on Mr. Spitzer's investigation (and their own followup).

CC isn't saying *where* these people worked - but *someone* probably knows where. And they may frequent this very board.

Noticably Absent...

It was late July when Elliot Spitzer brought the OAG smackdown towards the record industry, most notably againist Sony, settling for 10 million dollars and a 'don't do this again' note for mom.

But this looks like the first publicized news since that announcement rocked the board out of its' record heat summer break.

Does anyone think other companies are looking to 'binge and purge'?

Ask Dave Universal or Jimmy Steele...

from allaccess.com:

Michael Saunders Exits Clear Channel
Without details or preamble, a memo from CLEAR CHANNEL Sr. VP/Programming TOM POLEMAN was released today concerning the exit of WWPR/NEW YORK PD MICHAEL SAUNDERS:

"Please be advised MICHAEL SANDERS is no longer with CLEAR CHANNEL. We wish him all the very best in his future endeavors. For the time being, (VP/Urban Programming) DOC WYNTER is Interim Program Director. Please direct any programming questions or issues that you would normally send to MICHAEL to DOC WYNTER. DOC is arriving tonight and will be in the station tomorrow. Any press inquiries should be directed to (SVP/External Communications For Radio & Public Relations) LISA DOLLINGER."

SAUNDERS' exit comes on the heels of a CLEAR CHANNEL press release yesterday (10/11) regarding the dismissal of two employees for "inappropriate conduct" following the conclusion of an internal "pay for play" investigation connected with the NEW YORK STATE Attorney General ELIOT SPITZER and SONY BMG settlement.

A callback from LISA DOLLINGER is pending.

Also.......

.....All Access added that PD Diana Laird of KHTS/San Diego was another employee fired.

I find it interesting that C.C. did not mention in the press release that these two dismissals were related to payola. I have to wonder if C.C. is afraid of being sued for slander or on the other extreme hand are doing these folks a small favor by not officially outing them.

upon further review.....

....R&R sez:

"Laird and Saunders were named in July documents released by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer after his office completed an extensive payola investigation into Sony BMG. The documents alleged that Laird accepted a flat-screen TV from Epic Records and hid the gift by using a fictitious name and claiming the TV was awarded to a listener."
