CC HD Radio Update

For those who seem interested in what CC Albuquerque is doing......
KSYU is now testing the HD2 channel and we will be launching KTEG after some work on the STL Later next week. KPEK, KZRR, and KBQI will be last only because we had some of our new equipment fail and it had to be returned for repair. Both Main HD and HD2 are running at 48K which seems to be the best compromise for quality versus multiple audio streams. If you have a reciever you can listen to us commercial free (HD2)and see for yourself how the technology is coming along. We have some issues with the data pipe to our transmitter but our IT/Eng staff is diligently working to harden our network paths to our transmitter sites. From what I understand we are the first in the area to deploy this technology and I feel confident it will be ready for primetime soon. Hopefully the rumors of new HD radio's arriving in stores after the first of the year are true as I look forward to your thoughts on this technology.

For those of you that havent heard HD Radio, you will like it. I just finished a number of stations in Milwaukee, WI and have been listening to Chicago, Detroit and the like.

Are you planning on flipping your AM to HD as well?

Yes we are starting a full array restoration and HD conversion, The scheduled on air date looks like March 15ish. Depending on several things, our AM is diplexed with another station so we might run into some issues getting HD to play well on a diplexed AM.

Excellent! This news makes me enthusiastic about HD radio again...along with the hope of the technology getting even better in the future.

I just can't wait to be able to listen to the technology, as HD radio stations still haven't arrived in my neck of the woods and I'm trying to save up money for an HD receiver...it might take a while. :)

Just a question...what does "diplex" mean?

Two (or more) stations using the same antenna. They do that by using filtering to keep the signals out of each others transmitters
