CC is at it again - Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together

Playing it at the top of the hour every hour on their CHR's, Country's, AC's, and Hot AC's. Any thoughts, at least on its potential on the CHR format?
Will it be another Gimme All Your Luvin'?

I'm not liking it very much...still burned out on Taylor Swift from the late 00's. Seeing that her past few songs that have crossed over to CHR have not done much, it will be interesting to see if the trend continues. I personally don't miss her music on CHR, but that's just my opinion.

Taylor's deal is INSANELY massive! So far all the songs that have had deals in the past were played just on top40 channels and pop leaning Rhythmic channels. Taylor's deal includes AC, Hot AC, Top40, Country and pop leaning Rhythmics.

AC stations only play their top songs 3-5 times a day! Taylor is going to get 20+spins in just one day! I've never seen that. That's shocking.

So much for programming on the local level. I think I heard the song on WOR today. :D

So is the so any good. I follow a local non CC owned station on Facebook and I think they may have played the song on their nightly new music feature. I didn't hear it so all I know is that after the fact, the DJ posted a status that basically said that Taylor Swift needs to shut up and that her songs are very repetitive. Based on her past couple of songs, this one might not do much on the charts. Her songs tend to sound the same and people may be tired of her singing about her failed relationships.

CC is probably pushing her new song as she's one of the headline acts at the iHeart Radio Music Festival in September.

After hearing the song now, I think teen girls will love it. If a song like Call Me Maybe can be a hit, this has a chance to be a hit also. Probably her most pop friendly song to date.

When I first heard this song yesterday, It could have definately passed as Avril Lavigne or Katy Perry..When they came on and said it was Taylor Swift, it was definately a shocker...Definately has a catchy pop-like thing goin on

The difference between "Call Me Maybe" and the silly Taylor Swift song is that the instrumental production melody of "Call Me Maybe" actually sounds more "classic." The instrumental to "Call me maybe" has a sound that not only makes it AC or Hot AC friendly, but that will also sound "old school" when it's looked ack upon in a few years. The Taylor Swift song sounds 100% like a disposable pop song that may die before the Christmas Music discussions begin to surface on these boards. It makes Madonna's "give me all your luvin'" almost look like a masterpiece in comparison.

But I'm sure the chorus (or hook) of Taylor's new song could easily be used in a show like Glee or One Tree Hill or something like that... if those shows still air.

Thanks to the big push from CC the song debuted at #29 on the CHR/Top 40 chart, #30 on Hot AC, #16 on AC, and #26 on Country. This is a good example of how much CC controls the charts.

Not true. Quite a few other radio companies were part of this push. I know some stations that didn't want CC to own the TS audience in their town, so they added it just to compete.

Regardless of personal taste, this kid has a huge fan base, and radio stations that want to reach her demo would be foolish to ignore her.

So if other stations are being influenced by CC, doesn't that mean that CC gets the overall credit for being in control? ;)

I'm running through the leaders that allaccess lists and I'm having trouble finding any that aren't Clear Channel. I found one: WDZH (CBS) but the majority is Clear Channel.

"Credit?" In what way? You will get credit for your spins, just as they will. The only thing that matters is how your station is perceived by the audience. If you're ignoring a song they like because the competition is pushing it, all you're doing is missing out on that potential audience. It's about winning the audience. It's about allowing your competition to win because you don't want to play the game. Then again, if you feel your station can win by playing other less popular songs, that's your decision. I don't see this as being about CC, but rather how a station attacks its competition. Because the audience is going to want to hear this song regardless of what radio stations do.

The other thing about this campaign is that it's just a one-week campaign. If the song sucks, it will lose spins the next week, and drop from the chart. But it doesn't look like that's going to happen, and this song will continue to grow once the CC artist integration campaign is over. And there will be other campaigns by other media that will pick up where this leaves off. But at the end of the day, popularity isn't a function of the chart. The chart is just a measurement.

On the debut day, I heard KIIS, KBIG and our non-Clear Channel country station, KKGO, all play the song within my 30 minute drive to work. Since then I've also heard it on KAMP. So while CC is definitely somewhat responsible for its high chart debuts, other stations are all over this song too.

I wouldn't say I'm a T Swift fan, per se. I do like a few of her songs, but its generally the more country and less poppy songs that I like. However, I actually like the poppy version of this song better.

That's because she's a huge star with a huge fan base, and they want to hear the song. If they don't hear it on your station, they have lots of other places to hear it.

I think she is an "old school" artist in the traditional chart sense- in that her biggest songs may never hit #1 at CHR- but her albums are usually one of the top selling, if not the top selling, in the year of release. Also, her albums tend to generate multiple singles released to various formats- so its more of a broad approach to radio success that doesn't always yield #1s. This is a big push for chart success and a new approach for Taylor. I'd say its largely due to her appearance at the iHeartRadio music festival.
