CC Launches 5 Commercial Free HD-2 Channels in NY

Where's Entercom?

From All Access: "Today is the big initial rollout of the HD2 formats by the major radio groups part of the HD DIGITAL RADIO ALLIANCE. Below are the initial format announcements, so far from CLEAR CHANNEL, CBS, ABC/DISNEY, BONNEVILLE, EMMIS, and GREATER MEDIA."

I'm surprised no Entercom stations were announced. I kind of expected them to be out front on HD.

Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z

Wake me up when I can buy an HD radio receiver for under $100.00.

PS - You can jostle me when I can buy an HD radio receiver for under $200.00.

Re: Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z

It's a chicken and egg thing.

Receivers won't be cheap until they can be made in large volume.

Receivers won't sell in large volume until they are cheap.

Even people willing to pay more won't buy them until their is more programming.

We need more stations programming to HD to jump start the sale of receivers.

So I applaud the effort. I just wish it would have happened 5 or more years ago.
Radio is way late to the digital party.

I'll probably spring for one just so I can see how good (or not) it is.

So, how long have you been out of radio?

Or, can you get somebody else to pay for it? Like Mr. Moneybags Salesguy?

The best price I've found - without bothering to determine actual availability - is $479.00. That's way too rich for a poor jock to afford.

Nah. Not a sales guy. And I gotta buy it myself.

That's a whole 'nother thread. Not all jocks are poor and not all sales guys are rich ya know! I'd like to make what the morning guys make.<P ID="signature">______________

A little more research and you may have found your answer. See my post above. He was right however. You need to give this a little time. The general public does not know much about this yet. When they find out, the receivers will be lower in price. They have already come down from $800 to $299.

Morning Guys

I'll concede that point. I've also discovered why most morning guys are so tight they squeak. I get to fill in on the morning show when the high-paid guys are on vaca... Getting up at 4AM changes your entire perspective on life. Mostly, you're too TIRED to spend money, and too crabby to be nice to other people.

For the most part the technology used for HD radio didn't exist 5 years ago.

A little late on this thread but we have to get radio people to stop buying IBUZ radios. Leave them for listeners. Listeners fill out diaries. Radio people aren't supposed to.

The JVC has been out of stock at Crutchfield since it was released on Feb 6. I'll bet every one of them went to someone who can't legally fill out a diary, so no station will get any credit in the ratings and the IBUZ revolution will be stalled.
