CC layoffs expected to commence next Tuesday

Clear Channel Communications will next week begin implementing a massive restructuring plan that seeks to cut $400 million in costs at the company. The company is also likely to move toward a "national programming" model that would require less local-level staffing.

Next Tuesday day President-elect Barack Obama is to be sworn into office.
What a bunch of smooth operators.

I thought there was nothing else left to cut as most operations are now bare bones.

I wonder how this will effect NH? Where you guys are in the throws of winter and listeners depend on radio for weather and school cancellations.

Actually I figure radio's consolidator clones, will follow the actions of CC. So more stations will become repeater radio.

Not that any of this will effect any stations here in Maine...since all of CC is gone, but what of other companies? I read on an earlier post that some of the other players in the Portland Market were cutting back... I even heard through the grapevine that some cuts had already been made only to continue hearing said voices on the air...

Live or VT'ed?

I've read that the cuts will be in the sales department.

Cutting live jocks? Kiss 108 has three. How many would a CC station in Maine have?

Good point...I guess I don't know but even if they are VT'd wouldn't they have to be paid? They are the same voices I heard got canned but they are still on the air so I am going with the..."poster was misinformed" theory.

Max and True - I think you'll find that the original poster was correct and the announcer you heard Max, was probably live when you heard him next - air talent was let go due to budget cuts but management has tried to get him back with as much air time and appearance time as possible. A class move on behalf of management at a time then others are self destructing.

Kiss 108 has THREE jocks?? Now, that's just sad. RIP Kiss.

I'm counting Matty, Billy and Romeo as the three full-time jocks. Seacrest is in the can, and I wouldn't be surprised if Deirdre Dagata isn't voicetracked and/or a PT employee.
