CC Mark Mayes Eliminates 1850 Jobs/20 in Charlotte

Radio station owner Clear Channel Communications Inc. eliminated more than 20 jobs at its five Charlotte stations last week as part of a companywide reaction to slumping advertising sales.

Morgan Bohannon, regional vice president for Clear Channel’s Charlotte properties, defers all comment to the company’s San Antonio headquarters. A spokesman there e-mailed a copy of Clear Channel Chief Executive Mark Mays’ Jan. 20 memo and declined further comment.

It appears the HD-2 formats on WLYT and WKKT have also been cut. So much for HD Radio.

Excuse me but it would seem that these cuts make radio weaker. There doesn't seem to be any shortage of commercials on the radio. Could the economy be an excuse for corporate greed? I'm not saying it is...but it does make me wonder.

Will CC enforce the non-compete on the 20 people they let go? Not that there is much of a chance for very many people to find work at other stations which are also downsizing.

One thing for sure, to any station hiring now there is a wealth of good talent to choose from in all categories.

Yep there are commercials on the air, but the price of those commercials sold have dropped 50-65% thus the major decrease in revenue.

Word on the street is that there will not be enforcement of the non-competes for the sales staff that was let go, however they will lose their severence package when they go to work

I must be dumb, I still don't get it. I'm paying more for everything! The supermarket prices have been much higher.

When there are only a few places to buy commercials I don't understand why stations have to cut rates. ???

In today's world of radio, why is there even any need for a non compete? If you leave Clear Channel, there is not very many other options for employment is there? (tongue firmly in cheek).

Did I mention that I hate Clear Channel?
