CC Miami lays down the axe

Three Exit News Dept. At WIOD/Miami
ALL ACCESS confirms some more CLEAR CHANNEL exits, this time at Talk WIOD-A/MIAMI, where anchors PAUL BEERS and MICHAEL WOULFE and reporter AL WARNELL are out the door.

ALL ACCESS has learned that more exits from the cluster may be coming later today. Stay tuned.

McMillan Promoted At Clear Channel/Miami
CLEAR CHANNEL/MIAMI Pres./GM GEORGE TOULAS has promoted Classic Rocker WBGG (BIG 106) & Smooth Jazz WLVE (LOVE 94) PD RICH McMILLAN to OM/Adult Brands. He will oversee WBGG, WLVE, News WIOD-A, and Talker WINZ-A.

In a memo to staff, TOULAS said, "RICH has proven to be a great asset to the MIAMI RADIO GROUP and an outstanding programmer. He continues to be a strong leader and advocate of our 'Doing Things Differently' operational plan for 2007."

More Changes At CC/Miami

In other CLEAR CHANNEL/MIAMI news, Creative Services/Imaging Dir. CHRISTOPHER CLICK exits. He's hard at work on his sideproject "High Voltage Country" and other imaging gigs. Find him at [email protected].

Also leaving are Marketing Dir. and LOVE 94 Promotions Dir. MARC KUHN and BIG 106 middayer COURTNEY YOUNG. Are more adjustments in the cluster coming?

I'm not suprised at all. It's Clear Channel's way of sayin` "Thanks for stoppin by" :-\

I worked with Mike and Al when they were with WINZ-AM during the early to mid 80's and I was at WINZ-FM (I-95) under the Guy Gannett era. I started at I-95 in March, 1981 and they both were already at the station for quite a while. I wish them both the best, they're 2 great people.

I'm guessing they've dumped the higher paid employees and will replace some (but not all) with new people at lower pay.

Question: I was looking at the WJNO site (a CC station) and noticed that the host listed for their "Palm Beaches Morning Report (5-9AM)" is ONLY Jon Howe. Didn't he have a co-host (a woman) and what happened to her?

That would have been Pam Crosby. She left to run the news department of Metro in Baltimore..lucky them..she's terrific.

what's wiod gonna do for news??

According to their web site, looks like even with these "reductions," WIOD still has a news department with over 10 people. In 2006 radio terms, that's pretty good sized.

looks like six IOD people in all. al is gone, as you mentioned, but so is wayne roustan. so no street reporters. they've apparently replaced brian freeman with dave lamont to host the morning show. isn't he the sports director? or wasn't he? and thanks for pointing me toward the website. what happened to the morning editor? strange happenings, but not surprising. i'm guessing cc is saving close to a half-million in salary.
