CC must divest stations in Cincinnati

All Access is reporting that Clear Channel must divest stations in 4 markets including Cincinnati as Bain & Lee have interests in other stations in the market. This is very interesting.

Who would have ever thought that Randy would get a second chance.

I just realized a potential bad thing about this development, WLW may no longer be on XM after this deal. May have to buy a new radio for work.

They should sell off WLW,WSAI,WCKY and WEBN...the sooner the better for the historical and programming sake of these stations.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but does that mean all of the Cincinnati stations must be sold?

No details yet on that, but the reasoning given in AllAccess's story was that Bain-Lee owned other properties in the markets, so I would assume the answer would be yes.

Radio and Records and All Access report that

"it was not clear whether all of the stations in each market must be sold or if only certain ones need to be culled from the Clear Channel herd"

There is a lawsuit and settlement offer filed by the DOJ that I can't find online yet, just a press release.

According to this very own website, they have a choice.
1. WLW and Kiss107-1 IE two of their top-rated stations or...
2. WOFX and Radio 94-1.
Hmmmmm! Which two do you think will be sold off?
DUH?

That would cause some other interesting effects on the marketplace. What do you do with the Bengals radio network if what was posted on Cincinnati.com becomes reality? Would the Bengals be moved to WEBN or Kiss for the FM signal in the market or would Clear Channel have to allow the new owner to air the Bengals as well?

Let's Play what if..

Sell WLW but not the intellectual property. Indy just moved their Big News Talk to FM, Likewise Kiss moves to the other side of the dial. I believe signal wise FOX and the station formerly know as MIX has superior coverage to 107, correct? Sell the AM and the lesser of the FM's. That still leaves you with 3 AM signals; 55 is solid coverage wise and 1530 ain't half bad.. 1360 well.. I think the tower light is still on if nothing else. WLW-FM 94.1

Time for Bonneville to step up and purchase some additional signals! They've got the dough... even for WLW and KISS.

I would love it if Bonneville picked up 700 WLW and then spun 107.1 WKFS to a side broadcaster who wants to make a foot-print into Cincy. Maybe Baldwin?

I was wondering how long it would take for Randy's name to be thrown into this thread..turns out it was the second post LOL.

With this news, it's time to realize that all of Cincy's radio has changed hands in the last two years!

Baldwin doesn't do squat except to collect LMA checks from K-Love.

WHO's website? I searched for it on corporate and found nothing

HOWEVER>>>

Search Yahoo for "Clear Channel Communications"

The second listing says "We believe Clear Channel's people are our most important asset. ...
www.clearchannel.com/Radio/home.aspx"

The link for that page brings up a 404 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I rarely make blanket statements, but I will state:

No sane operator will pay anything of value for a license to broadcast on 700 AM without the call letters and intellectual property of WLW.

It's all about market share, right? According to the Enquirer, between Cumulus and CC (the article says they own 50% of Cumulus) the new owners would have 59% without divesting properties.

How much is allowed? Less than 50%?

Bonneville is thinking about getting out of radio period so this won't happen.

That was the first things said out of Salt Lake. However that has changed. They are back into buying mode again.

Bonneville wants this station very very bad! Trust me...I know! Bonneville has the money to invest and they have the assets (WTOP) to pair it up with.

I personally would love to see Randy or Bonneville to get back into the game.

However I think in the long run, Bonneville and SLC are going to get the stick. I could be wrong, but it makes a TON more sense if they do!

Bonneville was seriously interested in the San Diego propeties by LincFin. But at the last minute the deal was nixed BY LINCFIN, not Bonneville. They were scared of Denver, so thats why that never came to be.

Bonneville wants WLW. They are in Cincinnati for a reason!
