CC Nashville Cutting Down again for the Holidays

FCC? who mentioned the FCC? Oh...you did.

The FCC is concerned with the station licensed to Hendersonville operating on 92.1...
and isn't concerned with formats or slogans...or which group used 92Q first.
Why do you drag them into this?

BTW, I never worked for the FCC

To Chris Romer:
In response to you saying I never worked at WBYQ. That is a YES & NO answer:
What you're saying IS NOT the way the FCC sees it. WHVT, WBYQ, WMAK-FM, and WQQK are all the same station, the same license, same allocation, a frequency licensed to Hendersonville. It doesn't matter where the studio was located at the time, but the allocation and the transmitter site HAS ALWAYS been at the same location. The FCC sees it as the station has been on since 1970 to now, and it's all the same station, regardless of call letter changes, format changes, or licensee/ownership changes. The FCC sees it as Cumulus owns what we know as the original WHVT, on a LEGAL standpoint!
The commission doesn't care what is programmed on it, but the license is still the same, no matter IF the calls are changed. It's just like some ignorant people here in Gallatin refer to my station as the old WAMG, and that's incorrect, it's the old WWGM. I just modified the license and the allocation.
It is apparent that you have never read Part 73 or Part 74 of the government’s rules that deal with the FCC. You see the facility as two different stations, and it's not.
No, had nothing to do when the station was using the calls WBYQ, but I did when the calls were WQQK. I was in Middle (Jr. High) when the calls were WBYQ, nor was I there when the calls were WMAK-FM.
You worked for George Mooney, I worked for Sam Howard, and I will be glad to provide you copies of my tax returns for the years I worked for the station when Sam Howard was the licensee. In addition, I do have an air check made in 1988 when I was on WQQK. Also, a close friend of mine from high school, Katie (Watson) Harris recalls me working over at WQQK, when it was in the WVOL building, or you can call MSJ and he'll recall me working there when he was PD under Sam's Ownership, which was Phoenix of Hendersonville.
I think I know who put you up to making these comments. Tell'em to get a life!

Scott, thats a funny story about playing Zeppelin on 92Q, seems i read another story similar to that about a Jock that knew he was gonna be let go by 92Q, so before he left, he played 3 or 4 rock songs(Zeppelin,Beatles) before his shift was over. Is this the same story or a different Jock?
I seem to recall that story, too, but I don't know who that was. Maybe it was Scott? And there seems to have been more than one 92Q in Nashville radio history. I have only lived here since 1992, so I only remember the current 92Q (WQQK).
To make things clear, I never worked with Chris at 92Q, despite what the calls were.

Firepoint,
Originally WHVT, now WQQK, has been through many changes in the past 37 years, including 3 or 4 ownership changes since it signed on in 1970 as WHVT. It's done almost everything, Progressive Rock, Top 40, MOR, AOR, AC, Hot Black Urban, and today its rest as an Black Adult Contemporary Formated Station, with a mix of currents and Urban Oldies. Gee, what else can you do with a Class C, 6 KW, Low Power FM in a market like Nashville?
It changed from MOR to Urban in 1982. Cumulus advertises 1984, but that is incorrect, it was the fall of 1982.

read my post again...it mentions the FCC caring about the station licensed to Hendersonville on 92.1.
That includes WHVT/WBYQ/WMAK-FM and WQQK...you're correct. I never said any different...
I also understand the rules, thanks. And Buddy says "hello"...

we now return you to "Roller Derby" already in progress.

Gentlemen,
And I close with a Merry Christmas to both of you, and yes, as I write this, my station is playing Nat King Cole, recored before any of us were born. Makes me wonder what he would have thought of today's "Commerical Christmas World", thanks to Wal-Mart and Target! I'll shut up and hold my opinion to myself. The true meaning of the holiday is buried, and I find that a very shameful thing!

Opps....wrong again... the meaning of the season was buried...but He arose 3 days later. We Christians call that Easter. You may remember "Here Comes Peter Cottontail" or "The Easter Parade." Will you be playing those? ;)

All of this over a simple comment about Steve McCoy? I will make damn sure I use the terms WBYQ Hendersonville-Nashville - 92-Q
and when necessary and applicable WBYQ Hendersonville-Nashville / 1300 WMAK Nashville - The Q and MAK. If one of
you two (Romer and Scott) were female, I'd swear you were on Divorce Court a couple of years ago. It is interesting fodder, in it's own way. Buddy, you are THE MAN! Christmas cheer to all. I will never bring up any version of 92-Q again in 2007....talk
about straying and rambling.

The posts trashing R & B have not even be contested by anyone. Wow! Maybe we could start a FREE NASHVILLE of the REDNECK
IMAGE and get $20 a person and be able to buy all the stations in Nashville with cash and get Buddy out of retirement.

P.S. Has anyone noticed IF Rick Marino is now sounding like a country bumpkin on KDF? I have no clue as I don't get that
channel on my raydio. Blocked until the rock returns. Startin' it up again...huh?

Tibbs......Shhhhh. "out of retirement?" Someone forgot to let me know. I'm still over here on music row 4 days a week. I'm off the air except for a few news stories and commercials. I sit next to Romer here in the news room. And Romer, as anyone who knows him knows, needs no encouragement from anyone when he's doing something.

Keep smiling

it's been more than a few years ago...not that there's anything wrong with that...but the residual checks from the
Divorce Court re-runs are pretty nice. actually, I was contacted by the DC folks back in early 1998...didn't
consider airing laundry on national-syndicated tv in return for airfare to LA and a few parting gifts.

all verbal jousts with Scott are now officially done...sorry 'bout that

Chris,
Let's go get some egg nogg, spike it up! Tell Buddy it's O.K. on the holiday to cheat on the diet, heck I'm at 215 lbs, but my wife says, after Jan 1st, it's back to the diet!
HEY BUDDY.....HOW ABOUT SOME COOKED LOBSTER AND SOME ARBOR MIST WINE! If my wife finds out I'm eating lobster with that wine, she'll kill me, but I love it! Red Lobster, here we come!

One day we should all meet at Romer's favorite restaurant, Capn D's, and listen as he tells stories of days of old when Rich, Vallie, and Tex Meyer got 92Q rolling. It always irked the 100kw guys that a 3000 watt station way out in Hendersonville could make that kind of impact. The only WMAK I knew was at 311 Church Street, 5th Floor, Exchange Building, right by printers alley, making it very convenient for some of my favorite employees to do research.

I do remember when 92.1 was in the Newman Insurance Building, in the basement, in Hendersonville. I was in Jr. High then. From what I gather, that's was the first studio for the station. From there, the station has had 5 other studio locations that I can think of off the top of my head.

My days of 92.1 were in the old WVOL building. I had some good times there, and there is one deal that was funny as all get out that I should not share on this message board. (HA!) Chasing the kids that lived next door at there trailer park was fun. They would be riding thier bikes around the AM towers, and I was sent out to run them off. The stories I had to tell them to keep them out of that field!

Tell Buddy the Roller Derby shall consist of a "BAKED HAM" (my favorite), with a touch of pineapple for taste, shrimp with cocktail sauce, good ole baked beans, potato salad, tasty hot bread, with pumpkin pie or cheese cake. To heck with Radio, let's eat and have Elvis Xmas Music going! LET'S EAT!

Do I sense a group hug among you guys followed by a sensitive rendition of "Tender Tennessee Christmas"? No???

Gee Swiss,

With this country's current economic situation, I'm afraid of what will happen to our form of media in 2008. Yes, jobs will be cut, especially as we become a more techie, but as Buddy will agree, we have to find other things that are "hand on" for people to do so we can keep the economy going.

It's o.k. to talk about the past, but we can't go back and relive it. We better move on, and not get left out as the rest of the world moves on. Memories of the past can adapt to the future, and that is what we should work on.

That was more so I can poke fun at the song "Tender Tennessee Christmas". Do you remember an episode of WKRP when the entire gang had been fighting about something and were all about to make up. Dr Johnny Fever said: UH OH, I see a group hug coming. lol I wasn't making fun of you or Romer.

Maybe I should have selected Bing Crosby's "White Christmas". :) No wait I played that on my ipod just today. :)

Oh Yes, and all those turkeys for Thanksgiving!

So I wonder what Buddy Sadler will be cooking at his house for Christmas? Do I smell a ham across Gallatin? Hold on to that ham Buddy, I'll be there to help you finish that off! To heck with L.A. Weightloss, it's the holidays! I ready to eat! I got us a bottle of Arbor Mist to go with that ham!

I recall at WVOL, the whole station was full of food, never got hungry! I played Blue Christmas from Elvis and got rave reviews!

Scott

I would buy Scott a case of Arbor Mist...if i could go back and work all day Christmas at Whin...no one there but me, tracking Christmas music all day..pass the bottle around to all the employee..hehehe ::)
