No inside info here, but CC Phoenix may be a market that was spared. If you go to Tucson you will hear a lot of KFYI voices (news and traffic anyway) on KNST. Looks like CC gets their money's worth out of their Phoenix people.
Not quite. Russ Egan, PD of KYOT shown the door. One of two things happen when a Smooth Jazz PD exits ahead of on-air staff. They go with the BA Smooth Jazz Network hosts or blow up the format. BA of course licking their chops hoping they can Ramsey Lewis on to replace Melissa, Miranda to replace Tony Evans and get Maria Lopez on in place of Becky Taylor. It's either go for the savings or get a new format. The fact these local hosts were spared in the previous smooth jazz purges does show some support for what KYOT has been doing. They all sound great. But money is speaking a lot louder now.
Michael Kossett, a longtime part-timer at KGME, was also let go. He did some reporting and a Saturday talk show, "The Sports Mic"...Wow, I didn't think it was possible, but now there's even less local programming at XTRA!
