CC Prepping up???

I have heard NOTHING yet, but I wonder if the folks at Clear Channel are prepping to flip a station to a simulcast of WGST, to a classic hits format, or if BOTH will happen!

If both happen, you will most likely say goodbye to 105.3 El Parton or Project 96.1. Maybe we will have another "Holiday 2006", where ALL of the CC properties are changed up.

Looking at 6+ without the money demo's, one would suspect the Project 96.1 is on it's way out, but After listening to The Project at work, it is a viable way to reach the under 25 white male living outside of 285. How much money is in that demo, I am not sure.

96.1 will not go anywhere; I'm 90% sure of this. Why? Think of a medium or major size city that does not have a modern rock format (rather that be alternative or active rock). Technically, project is Atlanta's only modern rock station (excluding 99x which barley makes it out of the perimeter. I don't know if there is any research to prove this but hearing folks request songs and viewing the facebook page, most of projects listeners are from the rural parts of metro area. Tons of listeners from Paulding, Carroll and Haralson counties. Of course, when I was in high school (late 90s), younger white men listened to hip hop. Not so true now as more and more of the younger white population are turning to rock. WBZY could flip first or perhaps be switched to a different signal (105.7???). I think WILD would be better on the 105.3 signal considering the signal covers all of Atlanta (null to the east).

Personally, I'm not a big fan of CC active rock stations BUT I still don't see it going anywhere.

Only when Melissa Firest leaves. Then there will be a switch.

How did Cool 105.7 do for CC when they ran oldies? Didn't they flop with it? I remember not being impressed. However, that was more of an oldies station, back when oldies stations were dying left and right, and pre-PPM. CC has some good classic hits stations these days that do well - KOSF/San Francisco, KLOU/St. Louis, WWSW/Pittsburgh, WMJI/Cleveland come to mind.

I agree about Project not going anywhere. 92.9 or 100.5 will change before they do.

I see Patron going away entirely or going to 96.7 before it goes to 105.7. I can't believe WGST still isn't on FM.

They are at 92.3 but a terrible signal.

[email protected]=JOKE.  Epic FAIL.

Project isn't going anywhere, nor is 96 Rock coming back (as much as Cumulus tries).  Project makes too much money in the demos that count.

If Dave calls it quits with AAA, a "regular" alt station may come back (hey! 99X may come back for the umpteenth time!), but there isn't really room for both.

There still isn't room for both River and Rock 100.5.  Like I have often said, it's a death match.  I could see Cumulus putting a modified 99X on 100.5 if Dave quits (TRG would stay).

Kool 105.7 did terrible because of a tiny "good times and eight oldies" playlist.  The same thing happened to WMAX 105.3 The 80s Channel.  Journey plays more 80s than WMAX ever did.  CC doesn't seem to do oldies well.

I think WGST on 105.3, with the stereo turned off, would do well and have decent enough coverage.  Again, maybe CC could buy 105.1 back with its recent CP to fill in the extreme northeast.

Patron might get a boost if Radio One buys La Raza 102.3 to take it dark so they can boost 102.5.

The only other possibility I could see is Wild going to 94.9 and WGST to 105.7, UNLESS CC buys the two LFM stations and kills Star to make room for Wild 94.1.

Lets hope that no one buys Star94, it would be the death of one of ATL's least boring stations.
