CC Raleigh Selling.

The subject of this needs to be edited to "Possibility of CC Raleigh Selling?" or some variation.

You had me excited there for a minute thinking they actually were selling...
 
I agree. I too saw the headline..."CC RALEIGH SELLING". It should have read..."THE POSSIBILITY OF BUYERS IF CC RALEIGH SELLS"....
 
I wouldn't be surprised to see the sale of one or more weaker CC properties in many markets in the near future. They're seriously hurting for cash, and this would be an easy way to get it....
 
The sooner that this company breaks up, the better. Clear Channel has no heart. They don't give a rat's ass about their employees. Their only goal is to sugarcoat all of their memos from corporate with how they're struggeling and that they don't want to keep firing employees, but that's simply the way it has to be. Translation: The Hogan's homes need new landscaping.
 
why does CC get the dis? they are one of two companies who still want to be in
the broadcast radio business. everyone else got out or wants out. voice-tracking
and other budget slashing saves a few jobs per station, as opposed to firing
everyone and pulling the plug....which will eventually happen. the tower locations
that used to be "out of town" are too valuable as real estate now.
 
Turkeydance - what a joke your post is!!!! Don't you understand that CC and Entercom are two of the reasons that radio is in the state it is today??? Those big corporations are the very reason so many people got out of the business "either voluntarily or through force-out". As for the saving a few jobs....I'm snorting while I'm laughing! The corporate greed and catering to shareholders is what created the elimination of so many jobs in an attempt to increase profits. It's resulted in inferior products all over the country!!!! It's taken the very life out of radio and homogenized the product to the point that people feel contempt for their choices, thus they flock to other options. The deregulation of radio was the beginning of its demise and these big corporations and their greed are directly responsible. Yes, the plugs will be pulled soon enough. Your perspective is hilarious!
 
I kind of agree with turkeydance. CBS Radio just did some housecleaning on the West Coast. My friend Keith Abrams lost his job "something" to do with Programming. He did that "something" to several Denver Stations and also WOGL FM. The only difference is it did not come before Christmas, It seems CC does a lot of their housecleaning before the holidays.

I may be wrong on this statement....(Since I am not in Radio), It APPEARS to me, by reading various boards, and "The Cash Cage" (by Corey Deitz), people are being fired all of the time. They seem to find new jobs rather quickly for the most part. Is this still pretty much the practice now??

And, I would echo you and turkeydance, Stuart. One thing people for get is that THEY ALL make cuts; CBS, Entercom and so on. CC gets all the attention because they have the most stations. Cumulus and Citadel get less attention because they're already very lean and have nothing like the corporate infastructure and support Clear Channel has.

Nobody likes seeing anybody lose their gig but, let's face it: whether or not we want to admit it, radio (in general) was pretty fat, personnel-wise, coming out the eighties and then the consolidation of the nineties. If you look at how many people are employed in radio in 2008 vs. the number from 25 years ago (after all the thousands of move-ins, deregulation and so on), there are still more people working in radio today than a generation ago.

Ya right. And they all are sitting in the corporate offices sucking in huge salaries and turnning out little real work that matters. All the while patting each other on the back for being so damn smart to pull off such a job.
 
Guaranteed there are fewer Operations Managers, Program Directors, Music Directors, and Promotions Directors in the business today. Also fewer on-air personalities!

As for more than a generation ago, define a generation. If you are talking 60 years, fine, maybe even 30 years ago. It is apples and oranges.

If you really want a comparison, count the number of stations on the air vs the number of people involved in "building the product". Guaranteed the numbers will be lower!

I suspect there are even fewer sales people, since many sell multiple stations. Only abundance of people is at the corporate level! The could lose some VPs and add some PDs and make a lot more money!
 
Consider yourselves lucky, us in Charlotte are stuck with CC...geez they suck! Check out the Charlotte board and the WLYT thread...sad....sad

I agree, CC is so bad in Charlotte, it makes CBS Radio look like a first class operator.
 
Yeah, CC Charlotte has the wonderful Morgan Bohannon. A real top notch broadcaster and manager. Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!

CC and CBS must be in a race to see how many people they can fire by the end of the first quarter. Wait! Emmis is starting to catch up!

If it's that bad, please do the rest of us in radio a favor and find another career; it's the cancers in the hallways who need to go the most.
