CC Rumors Are Flying

92.3 is not enough for WGST on FM.

Clear Channel has really been ramping up their efforts to put talkers on FM - could 640 on 92.3 just be a placeholder? To compete, WGST HAS to be on at least 105.3.

I agree with carolina, WGST on 92.3 is a waste of time. You can't hear it in Gwinnett at all. WGST needs to put 640 on a decent FM or just forget it.

I have heard the CC might put GST on 94.9,or go back to the 105.7.

If 94.9 goes to WGST, would CC be admitting the whole "Bull" thing was a mistake. 94.9 seems to be headed in the correct direction 6+ ratings wise:

I do not have access to the "money" demos but 96.1 and 105.3 both seem to be going the wrong way 6+:

105.7 and 96.7 paired up seem to do OK considering the lack of a downtown signal for the pair:

94.9 The Bull is CC Atlanta's highest rated station. I think it'd be pretty stupid to blow it up, especially since they're right behind Kicks. It's taken forever, but the station doesn't seem to be as much of a "mistake" anymore. If I wanted to blow up one of the big sticks, I'd blow up 96.1 and put Project on a less-powerful signal.

Or, how about this scenerio - if 'GST went back to 105.7, WiLD goes to 96.1? Project then shifts down to 105.3 and Patron to 96.7? Atlanta has to be one of Clear Channel's most interesting clusters, speculation wise. Anything's possible, really.

Agreed... I think that would make the most sense...

Bull looks a lot better with Eagle out of the picture. It would have been interesting to see how long Bull would have lasted if Citadel hadn't flipped Eagle to True Oldies.

Putting Project on 105.3 would essentially be taking it back to the Buzz days. Incidentally, 105.3 The Buzz got better ratings than Project.

Assuming no new signals (translators) for CC, I would put Project on 105.3, Wild on 96.1, WGST on 105.7 and 96.7 (intowners can listen to AM), and Patron on an HD-2 and the 92.3 translator. Or kill Patron altogether and keep WGST on 92.3 as well.

Yeah, I don't see any reason to flip 94.9 at this point. I can't think of anything else CC could pull out of their hats to put there (or anywhere else, rather) that would do any better, except for maybe Wild on a stronger signal.

I think the switches mentioned all make sense, but would CC be willing to shuffle 3 or 4 frequencies? It might not be that confusing, though, because I doubt Project, Wild, and WGST have much overlap in listeners. IMO, El Patron is a dead end and deserves to be banished to the weakest stick or done away with entirely. Hard to believe CC had two Hispanic stations at once, and now one seems to just be barely hanging on by a thread.

If Project moved to 105.3 (which would be smart, IMO, it doesn't do great, but is worth keeping), it would be nice if the station had a better name (Buzz?)...but that might get confusing.

Hey, I got one: 105.3 KLS!

Not hard to believe when you realize how many Latinos have left town due to lack of jobs (including but certainly not limited to construction), and immigration crackdowns.

How about 96 Rock @ 105.3 :)

Personally, I don't care about Patron, but I must say; Putting Patron on 96.7? Then how will their main target audience base up in North Atlanta hear it? They might as well just...

8)

By the way, is Patron actually doing better than a Latin CHR or Latin Rhythmic could do in Atl? Are they actually doing better than the previous spanish format? I never thought to research it.

I heard the PD at 105.3 ElPatron got the ax. New Years format flip?

It's all adding up that WGST will switch to Rush Radio 105.3 and 105.7, simulcasting on both channels. Moving WiLD to a single 96.7 broadcast.

WiLD just at 96.7? Highly doubt it. They would have cleaned all of their staff out and would just run Premium Choice in that case. If it were on a bigger signal, WiLD would have a lot more potential. It should go to 96.1, Project to 105.3, and 'GST to 105.7/96.7.

However this plays out, I think it's safe to say El Patron's days are numbered and WGST will get an FM.

Atlanta's Hispanic market is way too large to have only AM signals....... ???

Three possibilities:

#1.
CC is having trouble selling El Patron because CC is "pushing numbers" instead of "beating the streets".

#2.
Maybe Georgia's Illegal alien law (kinda like Arizonia's) is working.

#3
The local "depression" (last time I looked Atlanta's unemployment was worst the Detroit's!) has accomplished what #2 could not.

My daughter has been listening to Wild (no more Radio Disney for her...baby's growing up :'( :'( :'( ) and I have to say that it is probably the best done of all the stations in CC's ATL cluster(f---), although Bull is pretty good, too. Wild deserves to be on 96.1.

Found this pic. Didn't realize that WGST was using the "News Monster" motif back in the 920 days...

When I came to Atlanta in 1994, the monster (as a plastic blowup) was making appearances.

Yeah, Wild and Bull are the ones that deserve the big sticks. They would be stupid to desert Wild, and I don't think even they are that stupid.
Can't forget...however these events play out, what happens to the 92.3 translator?

It'll be funny if Greenville, SC has a Spanish FM and Atlanta doesn't even have one.
