CC/Savannah gets Mr. Scott

I see that Craig Scott has been tapped to be the new cluster GM at Clear Channel/Savannah.

I just want to let you guys down there know, you are getting a super-quality guy. I am a big fan of the Big Guy, having worked for and with him over the years. But, be warned, Craig has a VERY low tolerance level for incompetence and silliness.

Craig will improve the cluster.

Oh, and if you work there… ask him what the H in H. Craig Scott stands for…

About Mr. Scott

Can't wait to find out what he's like. The brief press release reveals only that he is: "A broadcast industry veteran with more than 16 years of experience, Scott most recently served as GM of Pennsylvania Radio Networks, which boasts an affiliate list of 60 stations. He has also managed stations in Kansas City and Memphis and is a former co-owner of WKXI/Jackson, MS."

What is "Pennsylvania Radio Network"? How long was he GM there? What stations did he manage in Kansas City and when? When did he own WKXI?

While I can fill in most of the blanks on Craig's background, for me to do so would be inappropriate. I suppose that's for him to do.

But, suffice it to say, the release left much out, including his programming background, both from the corporate PD and consulting side. There are few managers who truly understand research better than he does.

He's a fun guy. But, I can assure you, the Savannah radio community will know when he arrives. Craig has always cut a pretty wide swath.

Tell him and Cathy the Memphis folks say hi.

Hmmm... hookay... if you say so. I guess it will remain a mystery. Extensive Googling turned up nothing beyond the press release. I guess he has cut a fairly low profile so far in his career.

Perhaps I can help. I turned up the cached radio-info.com history: Results below

I suppose that "short-lived" is bit relative. The station lasted about 3 years. Nice crew, included the polarizing Craig Scott as GM -- people either loved him, or hated him. Other notables included Sara Kimmel (great gal), David Edney (the very talented Chris Madison), and one of my favorite Jackson classics, Don Brady (a bit wacky, but a great guy once you get to know him. One of the most intelligent people I have ever met).

Thanks.

Just as a footnote... one might remember that the AM continued to plug along in Magee for a while, as it was paying its way. But, when CSB Comm. was offered $300k for it, it was an easy decision.

Ahh, a trip down Amnesia Lane.

I'll try to help with WSJC history . WSJC AM & FM was sold in 1988,by the Mathis family, to a gentleman named Craig Scott who was primarily interested in the FM station only .The FM was then moved to the Jackson/Ridgeland area and was then known as WMJW or "Majic 107 FM " . It was then transferred as LMA with WKXI and became "Kixie 107" . The AM was left in Magee but has been sold a time or two , and I believe now is owned by the Seventh-Day Adventist . Not quite sure of the how's and why's of bankrupcy , except for the fact that there is not a great following of Seventh-Day Adventist in and around Simpson County . I'm sure the station would be much better off as a Classic Country or Southern Gospel format in that area .

It has been done, actually. Majic 107. 1988 to 1991.

Station sounded great (but boring -- it was pretty soft), was well-mananged, and well-programmed.

It got its clock cleaned, though, when 'TYX went Oldies and took its Oldies base away. As billing declined, ownership got uncomfortable and LMAed the thing.

It's KXI now.

GM was Craig Scott and then Marshall. Both good guys with good business sense.

'Not sure now is the time for a really Soft AC now. This was back when Soft AC was really en vogue, and it worked. Tastes have changed a bit, as evidenced by the fact that most of the successful Soft stations around then (remember the WARMs, COZYs, etc.) are gone now.

But, heck. You gotta play something, I guess.

Re: About Mr. Scott

I hope he Can do something about WQBT

This Station is an "Urban" format but is lately sounding more and More Like "Urban AC" It Bad when WLVH an Urban AC (that has some rap in it)plays more Hip Hop in an Hour than WQBT.

Last Week one day Dyce Law between 8-9pm Did an almost all R&B Mix shop. That was painfull to the Ears
