CC Says ByeBye to SF

So, I know which I'd like to see go, how about you?

Looks like Santa truly does exist!!

BnR,

Where are you pulling this quote from?

DJ

I found this on Examiner.com (http://tinyurl.com/yadbq7):

NEW YORK - Clear Channel Communications Inc. may sell more radio stations than it previously disclosed as the company seeks regulatory clearance for its pending $18.7 billion buyout.

The divestitures are in addition to previously announced sales of a third of the giant radio chain and could include stations in more than a dozen markets, including Cleveland, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, according to documents Clear Channel filed last week with the Federal Communications Commission.

Clear Channel may be required to sell the stations to comply with media-ownership restrictions as the company works through its proposed sale to private-equity firms Thomas H. Lee Partners and Bain Capital Partners.

Very interesting. While I wouldn't say they are anywhere near saying "bye bye," it's significant that they might be selling here. On the other hand, they could just create another fake holding company and simply "sell" the stations to a group of their own shareholders. (Example: the "sale" of KABL-FM 92.1 to "minority" owners.)

Oh, and an aside to the Mysterious Moderator: yes, this is copyrighted material, but I've only quoted a few lines from a long article. This is completely accepatble under the "fair use" statutes. Try to exercise a little restraint, please.

Can you read? According to data filed by CC with the FCC! FCC.gov

Yeah, I can read. I was looking for the specific article that was being quoted by BnR. It was obvious (okay, not to you) that this was a specific quote, not something from FCC.gov.

Very clever that you pointed out an entire website rather than citing the exact page. Think you can find that exact quote on FCC.gov?

Hey Dude!
That's a looooong leap to make, to go from "Clear-channel "may" sell stations to "CC says bye bye to San Fran." Your thread subject sure makes a jump to conclusion, without any real solid evidence or confirmation. We call this "wishful thinking" round these parts!

They "may" sell stations in San Fran, or NY or Chicago. Than again they "may" not...
Funny thing about the word "may," it's what we call a "weasel word." It's a way to draw a conclusion from a loose or unsubstantiated comment. Look it up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weasel_word

Ah, the fine art of the "headline" or "tease". When listening to the Monster Truck spots with the huge reverb and all the engine howling sfx, the announcer delivers the line: "...Sunday, Sunday, Sunday the roof of the Cow Palace is coming off..." Does the Cow Palace ever really lose its roof? Nope. But it sure gets your attention!

It's advertising, it's attention-grabbing, it's the "art" of our medium. Big corporations like CC took away our ability to practice this art, the listeners went elsewhere to find it.

Do I wish for them to go away entirely? Of course.
Am I in the minority? Not in the least.
Would I have as much dislike for CC if they treated employees with respect and they practiced the "art" of radio? Shall I speak for everybody...? Naw, we're radio folks, let's all speak for ourselves.

I though things would be much better if the big CC/CBS types of groups weren't controlling things, but now I'm pretty torn about that idea after seeing what happened when Nextmedia acquired the CBS stations in San Jose. They're really having to run things on the cheap compared to CBS.
