CC Selling 104.1

But either the AP or Channel 8 got the call letters wrong. It is not WSHU. Those letters belong to Sacred Heart U in Fairfield. I can't remember the current call letters, and it doesn't matter. :)

>their current calls are WURH.

That's why it doesn't matter. :)

That a horrible set of call letters.

CC probably knew months ago they were going to unload the station, and didn't want to waste a decent set of call letters.

Bill you're absolutely right. In fact when the whole CC sale thing was announced last year most people who post here predicted that 104.1 would be the station that they'd unload.

The questions of course are who will buy the station? What will they do with it? And How much will it go for?

Facts for those who read this board from outside of Hartford:

There are 9 Commercial FM Stations in Hartford. Including 104.1 FM CC owns 4 of the FMs. Of the remaining 5, CBS owns 3. Buckley owns 1, and Marlin owns 1. CBS also owns 1 AM in the market as does Marlin (even if it doesn't cover the entire market). Buckley owns 4 AMers statewide. CC owns one AM. The Gois Family owns 2 AMers. Davidson Owns 1. Radio Disney owns one. And there are a small handful of Independently owned stations in the market.

106.9 FM and 92.5 were the last 2 FM stations to be sold in the Hartford Market. Both were sold in the mid-late 90s. And both went for North of $20 million.

We know CBS Radio can't buy the station as I believe some one saying you can only own 4 stations in a small market like Hartford.

So my guesses would be Citadel and Entercom.

An owner from outside the market would have to set up an office, and sign a good long term lease for the transmitter.

If Buckley were to buy the station, could they move 104.1 to DRC-FM's tower?

>So my guesses would be Citadel and Entercom.

Entercom could extend WEEI to Harford, but I don't know how many years are left on the WTIC - Red Sox contract. Entercom could use 104.1 to simulcast WAAF.

My last hope for terrestrial radio in Hartford is 104.1. A WEEI or WAAF simulcast is bad, not to mention a stupid idea. Sports radio does not belong on FM.

104.1 and 102.9 are both from West Peak in Meriden. It wouldn't be a bad idea for WURH to simulcast WBCN. That dual-cast would serve all of southern New England.

This is great news. I'd prefer something local, but a simulcast of WBCN would be cool. WFNX would be much better, maybe the Phoenix newspaper would like to expand into Hartford along with the FNX network. That would be so awesome.
