Experience operating on a shoestring. No, make that aglet. Experience income slightly below outgo. Experience major market talent trying to supress laugh as you describe compensation package, and thus experience talent pool fresh off paper route. Experience actual programming outsourced. Experience a good 6 months in lovely city, but don't get used to experiencing it.

Anybody who would take a job with Clear Channel is dumb or desperate. On top of everything else, the company will probably be in Chapter 11 soon.

I have learned that it is "The Band," KKSF.

At the same time, I am kind of taking back by the angst towards Clear Channel. If I was an out work autoworker, would I take a job with GM or Chrysler? Uh-huh. Clear Channel is what it is. A huge company that has had recent struggles. Even if they file Chapter 11, someone will have to program their stations. If one of those people is me, I will be thankful to leave the unemployment line.

They will keep programming that station by remote, with just a live morning show. Just sayin'. Any alleged PD will just be a glorified board op.

Your powers of deduction are incredible! What clues gave it away?

"See obstacles as challenges, not setbacks."....

So....let's see if I can translate this...

"There will be no money, no support, and no creative latitude. If the format doesn't catch on, we'll blow you out in 3 months and hand your job to Hammerin' Hank...60k per year, take it or leave it...but, you WILL have the opportunity to participate in Profit Sharing!"

My announcement is I will be applying for the position......as "Kenny In Concord".

Great! I'm really looking forward to the John Mack Flanagan morning show, Bobby Ocean in afternoon drive and Candy Chamberlain doing live overnights. Maybe Tall Tom Campbell will return to the Bay Area if you offer him enough money, and 50% of the gross revenue for all the commercials he does. I can hear it now:

"Praise Jesus...at Western Christian Book Store - 6400 Mission Street - Top of the Hill, Daly City!"

Great line, but it's gone out of business. There's a dollar store there now.

Then from taking back, let me take you down 'cause I'm going to Devastated Fields.  (Fields in this instance is a career choice, like radio.)

If you'd like to understand where we are as a country and the deteriorating shape of the employer/employee relationship, get yourself a copy of Joanne Ciulla's book The Working Life: The Promise and Betrayal of Modern Work.

It's especially interesting if you're in management and you really do want to provide a place where people are happy to work.  Employees may no longer believe you.  As a manager I have to spend so much of my time undoing the damage past managers have done.

Of course, if you're out interviewing, you know one of the top commandments is, "Thou shalt not speak ill of a former supervisor."  That's why you do it here, undercover.

That's also why I never tell anybody I'm a manager in the real world, unless they're in management too.  I just love hearing people's stories because many times I'm the only one in their world who's ever listened to them.  Their boss never did, their boss' boss never did, their peers never did, their direct reports never did, their spouse never did, their kids never did.  And of course, their employer never did.

If I was an out-of-work autoworker, would I take a job with GM or Chrysler? .

If you tend to view yourself as capable as one and only one thing in your life, then stay in your 1-career prison.  Or continue to let other employers sentence you to it.

Of course, there may be some employer out there like me who'd be willing to evaluate you in terms of other things you can do, which is one reason I in particular do NOT use resumes.  I instead use radio's model of audition.

Then again, I'm not like some managers.  I also think experience is overrated, particularly when economic circumstances and/or technology declare your line of work obsolete.

Thanks again for the explanations, Ms. Ciulla!

Three years of Selector use? Hey, the Tom Richard Card System works better. It's easy. Separate the songs appropriately, and if it's good, play it!

I also like that bit about motivating Air Talent. I can see it now... "Come on man, you can voice-track with the best of them!"
