CC spinoffs...impact on KHJZ?

Seems like all the speculation about a possible format flip on KHJZ came to a crashing halt when the Clear Channel divestitures were announced. While not directly invoved, could changes elsewhere have an effect on what CBS does with the frequency?

If CC decides to unload KHMX instead of KTBZ, the remaining cluster would lean very heavily male, with KODA as the only strong female station. Would that open the door wider to CBS launching the "Fresh" format on 95.7?

Also, CBS might be in the hunt for one or both of the CC spinoffs. Could they possibly have granted a stay of execution to Smooth Jazz while they await the sale decision on those stations? While SJ might not be viable in a two FM group, it might have a much better chance of fitting into a four FM cluster.

Even if CBS doesn't get either signal, they might still hold off on changes until they see who does wind up with the two CC properties...and can assess what the new owners might/will do with them, and react accordingly.

What would be REALLY NICE but won't happen is to move Jack from 103.7 to 95.7 . I know , I know, they are owned by Cumulus. Jack would sound so good on a City Grade Blow Torch here in Houston.

I was not real familiar with the "Fresh " format. I took a look at what is being played on 102.7 in New York. The music is definitely lighter than MIX but not quite as sleepy as Sunny. CBS may very well be waiting to see what happens with the 2 CC stations being sold if they have any ideas of flipping KHJZ. I still wonder what will happen to the station besides KLOL that CC sells. Would the buyers keep MIX or the Buzz alive? Some have said they feel KLOL will not stay Spanish.

Could changes affect CBS's formatic decisions? Yes, they could. However, CBS isn't normally a company that waits for someone else before pulling the trigger. In fact, prior to the Hollander era, CBS was known as a company that would go to almost any length to avoid format changes. While he's definitely not Karmazin, Mason seems to be more level-headed than his predecessor. Normally, when you find an opening, you go for it before someone else does, and that's what I'd expect Mason to do if he sees something. What we're probably seeing is simply the dynamics of the board coming to play. Remember, message boards thrive on change and rumors of change. As smooth jazz has had issues nationwide, one can only think more smooth jazz stations will go away. However, real changes are usually more fun to talk about than potential ones. So, people are discussing what looks to be real changes ahead at the Clear Channel cluster instead of simply speculating on KHJZ's future.

CBS wants both stations. They are waiting to see what happens over the next week or so when CC anounces which station, beside Mega is traded off. Imagine the conversations between radio companies. Love to be listening in on that.
What's a couple of weeks, when you can change the dynamic of your cluster in a very positive way. They are going to put off a format flip until they see what happens. The question is: What will CBS trade off to get the CC stations?
Lieberman wants Mega but not Mix or Buzz. Univision can't trade, nor can Cumulus.
Citadel wants in on the action and is willing to trade some of the ABC stations.
Regardless, we will know in the next week at the latest. Meanwhile, it can't be much fun in The CC building right now and won't be even after the dust settles.

Liberman cant get anything.....Citadel/ABC doesnt have to do trade; they can BUY into the market....So can Emmis and others...

CC will only trade the stations.
Tax break purposes, big advantage and they can maximize the situation into a positive in another market.
They WILL trade.
Why do you think its taking so long to determine which stations are going?
They have had to know for a while they would have to divest some stations in certain markets. The DOJ just doesn't pop that on you an then you immediately announce it to the public. Its all orchestrated.
They are working the phones to get the best deal they can for all the stations they have to divest.
Bank on it!!!
