What's up with this about Urban ACs having an unusually high amount of spins? From comparing station playlists for urban AC's in the south owned by Clear Channel, I noticed new R&B/Souls getting played more than 45 times in a given week (not sure if the syndicated show spins count), with some as high as 50+. I don't understand why grown folks radio in this arena have to play a new song every 2 hours (per yes.com and tunein.com). That sounds like something most mainstream urban/rhythmic/top 40 pop/CHR stations do (some replaying stuff LESS than an hour later), as most urban ac's average 30 spins at the most and 20 spins at the least for the lastest song on airplay. I don't know what happened but I thought the purpose of Urban AC's are to play a VARIETY of music from the past decades into today with few recurrents to get people thru their 9 to 5.
These stations spin the newest R&B Soul hit at least 50 times a week: WKSP Augusta, WAGH Columbus, WMXD Detroit (though in the Midwest), KJMS Memphis, WWMG Montgomery (which is the worst at 71 spins), WYLD New Orleans, WKSA (formerly WKUS) Norfolk, WSBY Salisbury (65 spins), WLVH Savannah and KMJM St. Louis (another Midwest market). I'm amazed WDAS and WVAZ haven't suffered this spin burn, but they're both heritage R&B stations anyway, besides the syndicated shows and the overnight I Heart Radio synced playlists. Can anyone give some insight and reasoning why this is the case.
