CC vs. Renda/Dr. Radio

Dr. Radio has issues with Clear Channel and Gail Austin. Hell, Dr. Radio has issues. The Dr's cheap shot doesn't change the facts. Renda had a station name that was working fine when they moved WGNE to Jacksonville: Froggy. For the love of God, why change it? Making that move even stupider, they choose Gator. It's a strech to say Gator hurts an AM station (930 the FOX) that carries UF sports, but it does give CC an opening to make Renda's life miserable. Why not challenge the Gator name, force WGNE to stop using it at least for a while? Why not add to the confusion Renda created after moving Froggy to Jacksonville and changed the name a month later? If Austin's guilty of anything it's defending her stations any way she can. Having lawyers tell a competitor to cease and desist is not deception and certainly not illegal.

Can't believe I just defended CC. Imagine that, NOYFB takes up for the evil empire! And not one word about Cox. So sorry to disappoint Martha Stewart.

The feeling was Gator would be a stronger moniker then Froggy,
so they changed the name. I just don't get it? I guess that's what happens
when you start believing your own bull.

CC vs. Renda

Having observed many head-to-head battles around the country, the bigger-picture question might be the wisdom in engaging in a battle like this in the first place. My guess would be Renda feels like if they can beat WROO, being the #2 country in a market like Jacksonville can be a very good deal.

However, their energies can't possibly be focused correctly when they've done TWO brand-new start-ups, almost simultaneously. Even if there were a couple of months between Kool and 99.9, it's a big enough hill to climb without trying to climb on two fronts at the same time.

Still say they should've cooled their heels and put oldies on 99.9 (better signal) and a brand- new, totally unique format on 100.7 (like Gospel, as they're doing in Atlanta, Birmingham, Jackson, Montgomery, Memphis and other Southern markets, where a rimshot signal is absolutely sufficient).

I'm not big into predictions, but for 99.9 to beat either of CC's country stations (and they WILL have to beat at least one to early the respect and the business), everything will have to go right for Renda and CC will have to step on their johnson a bunch of times-- the chances of that all happening is not good. Good luck, all the name stuff, mind games and drama notwithstanding.

Re: CC vs. Renda

You just wait 94.1 is moving to Jax next. And that will make three new stations talk about more than you can handle.

Renda

I think (hope) you're being sarcastic. It's hard enough to do one, nearly impossible to do two and 3 within a year- wow. A major cluster----.

Re: Renda

a few months ago Renda purchased 94.1 for seven millions bucks
and plans to move the studios to Jax by the end of 2005. I think 94.1 has an approved power increase. they might move the tower too. They might do Jack?
