CC with a new format??

I was listening to the doghouse this morning and they were talking about how CC was going to come out with the same format as 106.9 in the future (Jan I think) if this is true isn't it amazing that CC could not be sooo creative and think of their own format and go and copy 106.9???

Also if this is true what station could be switched?? I think 960 but if it was an FM what could it be??

They were probably talking about Howard Stern's comments yesterday -- he supposedly read a "confidential 10-point memo" put out by Clear Channel which he somehow got hold of. It was all about how they were going to compete in the post-Stern marketplace.

I was actually listening then. They were sent a note from Darian O'Toole about CC starting a new talk station. That was their source. And that is the only place I have heard about it. And, as I stated earlier, I know remember why I did not like her before. She is not excactly MENSA material, so I am going to guess she just plain misunderstood something (which she seems to do constantly on her show.)

The people at CC are laughing their butts off about 106.9 and couldn't be happier with it. It's a train wreck.

I think that may be the only time I agree with anyone or anything at CC. Of course if CC wanted to compeate with 106.9, They would have to find a group of people who were disgruntled ex-employee's of Infinity... Brad Kava (SJ Merc)said in his Radio Blog that his Over/Under for the format is 8 Months...Free FM...Because Who would pay for this ?

FreeFM latest trend:
Highest Cume Zip is 94107
specifically 340 Townsend

and even that has peaked.

Re: CC with a new format-NO WAY

I sell advertising to CC and there is no way the plan on changing any station to talk. CC will lose valuable dollars if they went talk on any station especially wild. Even though we all know WILD is now the JOKE of CC, they would never do it. Look for wild to dump the morning show come Jan and syndicate something in fom LA. Remember Big Joe from the Doghouse? He lives in LA and works for the rythmic station there. Rumour is, their show will be on this Jan to save thousands on a struggling morning show with newby morning host Strawferry! I know Straw doesnt want to hear this, but its true, I sold some national spots set to air Jan 9th. The 2nd week of the new year. Thats the projected date of the new morning show. I hear Straw and the gang will be let go sometime after thanksgiving. Merry Xmas Wild morning (joke) crew!

How does that work? I thought CC sold advertising. What do you sell them?

Re: CC with a new format-NO WAY

> we all know WILD is now the JOKE of CC...

Call me clueless...I'm not a radio insider, and I don't know all of the back-story about why Wild's ratings have declined somewhat...but they are still the Number 6 ranked station in the market (though not by much)...so how does this make the station a "joke?" I would think a lot of other "successful" stations in the market would love Wild's ratings and demographics. I've heard that the big radio conglomerates prefer to sell time on their "clusters." Given the combined ratings of KMEL and Wild, and CC's virtual monopoly with the format, I'd think they would be an attractive buy for advertisers. But I agree that it would be crazy for CC to start another talk station on FM. I doubt even the huge LA market could support 2 FM talk outlets.

Hey, you've gotta buy the stuff you sell from somewhere. He's probably the guy who sells wholesale ads to CC. They slice the big chunks of advertising down into 7 minute segments and sell them to advertisers.

It's what makes America great!

Re: CC with a new format-NO WAY

CANT READ, NATIONAL SPOTS! I.e. Dial, Palmolive, Advil etc depending on demographics, It could be a national add for Scion which plays on Wild!

Wouldn't that make you more of an agency buyer and not a sales rep?<P ID="signature">______________

Sorry, but I don't get this. Forgive my ignorance, as I know nothing about the Sales side of this biz, but aren't these stations just selling airtime? They don't have to buy that. I don't understand what it is that is being sold here.

Hmmm... sounds like that guy's not sure what he really does.

Sounds more like he sells advertising to CCU, just like he said. Probably sells outdoor or direct mail.

They are 100% clear on what they do. They are sales reps for national business.

There are no ZIP code braks in a trend. The last trend that was not a book was for August, well before the format flip. So far, there are no ratings of any kind for "Free FM." We will not see anything covering late October and early November until mid-December.
