CCC sees bump in first ratings book with tweaked format

CCC saw a nice little bump in the latest PPM's, the first to include the format tweak. They went 2.4 - 2.6 - 2.8 - 3.3 - 3.4 - 4.2

That's a 0.8 jump in one month.

Nothing else very notable in the latest ratings.

I feel that it is because you have it playing in stores or public spaces etc where a ppm reader will tag wccc on the radio since the hard music is gone. the true listenership is gone like me but the fake ratings listenership is up IMHO IE public spaces. unfortunately this is the crap rating systems that we use in radio.

You're telling me that the station increased nearly a full share in one month because some dude walked by a store that had WCCC on?

That's a real stretch.

There's a reason why the "Active Rock" format is all but dead in most markets....the audience is niche, and the demos they do attract aren't what advertisers want. It's that simple. Most rock stations have relied on lots of gold in recent years...because that's what brings in ratings and it's what agencies want to buy. The ratings bump is not a surprise. Playing a tight rotation of familiar songs is always a winner. While occasional captive listening may be part of the reason for it, it's not all of it. My guess is their TSL (time spent listening) is up since there are less unfamilar, polarizing songs on the air there anymore. It isn't rocket science....

I disagree.

Gary Craig - Live and local for over 30 years. Local connect, heritage.
Ray Dunnaway - Live and local for over 20 years. Local connect, heritage.
Allan Camp - Live and local for over 23 years, over 25 years in Hartford. Local connect, heritage.
Jim Vicevich - Live and local every day, in Hartford for over 30 years. Local connect, heritage.
Damon Scott - Live and local every day for over 20 years. Local connect, heritage.
Courtney and Kiss in the Morning - live and local for over 15 years. Local connect, heritage.
John Cadillac Saville - Live and local in Hartford for well over 20 years. Local connect, heritage.
Brad Davis - Need I say more?
Floyd Wright - Live and local in Hartford for over 30 years. Local connect, heritage.
WHCN - Live and local in multiple dayparts for over 10 years
WMRQ- Completely local, some live.
WCCC - 100% local for over 40 years.

Jerry Kristafer at DRC-FM and Wendy Steele at WWYZ go back a couple of decades, too. Even Grahame Winters has been around, if not always on the air, since the '90s. No shortage of longtime local voices in this market.

The long time announcers are to be applauded. Survivors and great talent fortunately last in all good radio markets. Do you think the station FORMATS & LOCAL SERVICES connect as they once did? Is it because fewer local owners diminish super stand out stations?

..and look at the list below. Several of them work at CBS/Hartford, which has always relied on local talent. The rest of them are at Buckley, another group known for keeping veterans around. It's not that way in every market. The one exception is Courtney at WKSS...and if her ratings slip CC has a syndicated morning show ready to take her place. Hartford is fortunate to have some local owners (Buckley, Marlin, Fuller) and CBS who are willing to employ local talent. Most markets have many of their local legends on the sidelines wanting to work, but stations don't want to hire them. It's cheaper to syndicate or automate.

I Would hate to see CC Syndicate a Morning show, But If the did Would love to hear CT Native Kane on The Kane show.... Much better than Elvis Duran.

I was listening to WCCC for about thirty minutes on Thursday night about 10:30 and I did get some recent alternative stuff, with the set ending with Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls".
