CC's Heartless "Thank Yous" on Axed Station Websites

There's a reason why these PD's won't allow these part-timers on the air... "jamessteele" said it best, "make them become better than you"

A lot of PD's nowadays are scared enough there gonna lose their jobs because of ratings. You know there not gonna risk someone becoming better than they are for fear the part-timer would take over. What's sadder is these PD's have been in the business forever and don't want to see anyone succeed for risk of losing their job.

I don't even know why I call them PD's anymore because they don't really PD... they get handed to them from corporate what THEY want them to do. They're just puppets on a string!!!!!!!

u have obviously never been a pd in a competitive market situation

I have worked at a couple Clear Channel stations, and me as a MD and my PD always made the decisions on the music, promotions, etc... There would be phone meetings with other Various PD's and Regional Managers, but they always just offered up suggestions and told us what has and did work for them. I wouldn't say that the PD's are "puppets on a string", atleast that hasn't been the case with the Clear Channel stations I have worked for.

what u said is more typical of cc. U want to point out programming-in-a-box look at cox. hooo boy

i think most who do the carping about corporate radio have very little real knowledge how things really work on a programming level. they are very good at complaining about it but the griping is usually based on heresay

Sure, corporate makes suggestions and what not, but the CC stations I've worked for it's been a suggestion that basically they didn't do it, consequences would insue.

That's all I was saying! :) Again, that's my experience.

oh, you're right, radio friend

no one in "corporate radio" ever did anything wrong and consolidation has made radio better than ever

no one in corporate radio ever took a "heritage station" and screwed up it's image through homogenous programming, endless stopsets, and bs "value added" promotions that mean nothing ot the listener

no one in any "ckuster" situation told jocks to shut up and then wondered where the hell the talent was?

no one in management at Cox, CC, Cumulus, or any of the big boys ever assigned a manager to run a group of stations who didn't have clue 1 about the market

no one in "corporate radio" ever let a consultant's research to knee-jerk stations (changing ir "tweaking" them every six months)

no one in "corporate radio" ever made market managers put a show on the air just because the company owned it and they were trying to get some momentum in syndication....despite what was right with the market

no one in "corporate radio" ever looked at an ipod and thought "that's a format that will get us by for six months"

no one in "corporate radio" ever declined an opportunity to develop talent

no one in "corporate radio" ever changed the rules on commission for sales people with no warning

we are all so lucky ro be in this era of "less is more", "blink spots", and homogenous radio. it sure did suck when markets sounded different from each other and personalities were allowed to connect with listeners, instead of reading a card for four hours (verbatim, mind you)

thank you for your wisdom. i know that you are much brighter than any of us on this board and i am SO glad you are taking the time to help us realize how great the industry is now.

grab your fiddle, son. never mind that everything is burning around you.

Will someone give goatboy a hug...

A lot of jocks in the country are very talented and are able to go on the air and do a personality driven show on a daily basis. This happens from market 250 all the way down to market 1. I'm not saying that it is like that everywhere. I am sure that there are a lot of places where jocks are told to shut up and read liners, but there are still places where DJ's are still on air talents. It's kind of up to the DJ himself to not end up at a gig where he or she is told to read liners every break...unless thats what you want to do.

[EDIT]

[EDIT=inappropriate.]

It is wrong for me to point out the irony of steele touting doing a fun, creative show without liner cards and then he gets edited (by a consultant, maybe?) for being inappropriate?

PLEASE HUG ME! LOVE ME! but do it in a way that allows for quarter-hour maintenance and please don't forget "stationality"

gosh dood-u must be dilusional

**CONSULTANTS** do not edit jocks (and any gm or pd who tells u so is covering their own sorry a$$)

qtr-hr maintainance doesn't get discussed by TODAY'S RADIO PEOPLE.

don't know where U get all these cookie-cutter buzzwords. and U seem awfully bitter and resentful. your entire tone is not typical of ANYBODY successful and driven in radio for 2006

PLEASE for the sake of radio moving fwd ..........leave the biz

I gotta give it to goat boy...he makes a really good quarter pounder with cheese.

I've thought a lot about what u have said here radiofriend1 and I have decided to take your advice....the advice of an anonymous person on a message board...and I am going to quit the biz.

(Now, that would be just about as stupid as some of the BS u have posted here)
