I'd welcome the Chill format back, but that DEFINITELY won't ever happen.
Their playlist was way too tight. Furthermore, I doubt a smooth jazz station is even relevant in this day and age. A better fit would be a station that plays the jazz, funk, and disco songs that formed the backbone of most rap beats until the earlier part of the decade. It would have broad appeal to the parents who lived with the music the first time arround and the, now-adult, children that heard the beats rehashed in a Hip-Hop song, liked the beat, but now feel self consious listening to gangsta rap and its sometimes cartoonishly juvenile subject matter.
Samples 102...Hear it again, for the first time
Samples 102...9 out of 10 rappers prefer it
Samples 102...Musical bong rips
Samples 102...As heard on (insert some artists name)
Furthermore, since Emmis has such a monopoly on the DJ talent, its aligns well with their core competancy as a cluster: Urban Programming.
The format is too quirky though, so it won't every happen. I'd love to test market a fomrst like this out in Flatbush or Hollis though. New York has such a large middle class African American polulation and really only WRKS as a channel, seeem really risky to have all your share in one brand.
