cd 101.9

I see where cd 101.9 has dropped the identity as New York Chill. They have gone back to calling themselves Smooth Jazz cd 101.9.

Does this mean the great "chill experiment" has ended as I predicted it would? Also is Blake still the program director?

Just checked the website. It is still NY Chill. I hope they don't change it. I am really enjoying the format. If it goes away I will have to stick to listening to Planet Jazz and Chill on my Sirius Radio

Chill is gone. Look at the the now playing list. It's all Smooth Jazz and some AC tunes.

the Chill is gone

Although they continue to bill themselves as NY. chill they seem to have taken away all the chill music. WQCD was trying to do something different/electic and very New York. My take on why it didn't work was because they tried to appease too many types of listeners to those who like urban ac to smooth jazz to trendy types that would listen to chill over drinks.
Basically most people wouldn't like both Stevie Wonder followed by Brazilian Girls. The genres don't mix well and appeal to different demographics.
Seems like QCD is now going in the direction of WNUA, Chicago and while I think it may work, I'm sorry to see yet another creative radio station bite the dust.
RIP CHILL! Summer 2005

There's been more talk about WQCD on the Phoenix board than there is on this one. Can I guess that "Chill" wasn't all that popular in NY?

Out of any US. city CHILL is most likely to be played in bars in New York than any other city in the country other than perhaps LA.

I will just stick with the Sirius Radio then. I hate commercial radio in NYC. They should start a Kenny G marathon so that I can toss the radios in my house off of the cliff lol

I would say NY is more likely to play it than LA. Well, we should give them SOME credit for taking a risk.
______________

Once they get IBOC, they could play Chill music on their secondary channel.
______________

Playing cocktail lounge music had a Chilling effect on 101.9's ratings

Chris Botti's show is still on, as was the Groove Boutique, so the station is probably once again just tweaking things. I guess some people weren't able to handle anything that wasn't instantly recognizable and rather than bring in even more new music, the station's going backwards and expanding the type of music they play. Looking at it from the music they already play, I take the Peter Gabriel as being in the same vein as Sting, who they've played for years. The songs by the Temptations have been covered by plently of "smooth jazz" artists, so why not throw the originals in once in a while? Most of the other "AC" songs have been played 101.9 before over the years.

The DJs and the station IDs have been interchanging "Smooth Jazz" and "NY Chill," all weekend so they are still acknowledging chill music. I doubt that 101.9 is going to stray from their brand of jazz, and I hope I'm right, because the last thing NY needs is another cookie-cutter station.
______________

Right...so I guess anyone listening right now notices even Chris Botti's show is gone. I've written a few e-mails, but I doubt very much it will change anything as my e-mails to CD101.9 have been bouncing since last Friday.

Bravo, Emmis, for going *backwards*. Ugh.
______________
