CD 102.5 has returned at 92.9 FM

WWCD is back on the air now at 92.9 FM. They are also on AM 1580 WVKO.

I will have to drive up towards Delaware, OH and check 92.9 to see if the translator tied to AM 1550 is also CD 92.9.

I just drove up north on 315/270 and 92.9 W225CM Delaware is still running "My 92.9 programming" So it's just 1580 WMYC and the translator downtown Columbus on 92.9.

** I mentioned the 'old' 1580 call letters earlier.. I'll always remember that signal as "WVKO"

Here's the deal....
WWCD will take over the 92.9/1550 signals in Delaware on January 1st.
WDLR will move to 96.7/1270 which is currently occupied by WQTT. Both (DLR/QTT) are owned by the same company, DELMAR.

Ah I was wondering where the "my 92.9" format would go once WWCD Limited starts simulcasting on 92.9/1550 in January ;) I could not really see Delmar changing 95.1 to Classic Hits.

I wonder how far south of Columbus the signal on 92.9 FM will reach ??? Probably no chance in getting here in SE Ohio.

If they will be simulcasting on 1550 AM we would have a better chance in hearing the station on there.

The key to this is that both 1550 and 1580 are AM's with FM translators on 92.9.

Yeah - interesting though from the WWCD Limited press release they hope to eventually purchase 1580/92.9 and 1550/92.9.. I wonder where Malloy will find the cash given they clearly lost 102.5 due to terms of a lease renewal that station.

He also had the option to purchase 102.5 at one point too but could not raise the cash to do so (WWCD Limited did a fundraiser online many years ago but could not come even remotely close to the cost to purchase) and from all indications the reason he left 102.5 is due to a increase in fees for a LMA renewal (didn't want to pay what SEOBS was asking thus it ended up being LMA'ed by Urban One/Radio One).

I wonder where he suddenly found money to LMA 92.9/1580 WMYC and 92.9/1550 WDLR (though given these are AM's with 250watt translators I suspect it's cheaper than what SEOBS was asking for 102.5 FM)

It's also interesting that Delmar/ICS is turning away from Delaware (their home town) for their stations with the flip of 1550/92.9 on Jan 1st. They will still have 1270/96.7 WQTT Marysville and 95.1 WVXG Mount Gilead (and 98.5 WINF-LP operates out of their studios on 36/37 in Delaware) but that will put a dent in their 'local' presence in Delaware as 1270/96.7 puts signal in a different direction than Delaware.

2020 has been crazy and that can say the same for Columbus, OH radio - We've seen more change in the last few months then we have in a long time.

The 1580 translator at 92.9 was a thorn in the side of 92.9 Delaware because the distance between them is so short. Not sure how they both got authorized so close together. Under common ownership or at least common operation through an LMA they can be synchronized so that they provide seamless coverage from Delaware to at least Columbus. There will still be an interference zone where the two are equal strength, but it can be minimized through current technology of synchronized transmitters. It is quite common. It's a patchwork attempt at creating wider coverage with two 250 watt translators.

Regarding 102.5, I would guess the LMA had a lease escalator clause in it , but because of the pandemic and declining radio revenues, the two sides could not come to an agreement and somebody blinked.

Yeah that technology is 'installed' just not turned on at the moment with the 'different' programming. They had been using it prior to the split of the signals.. Once the LMA begins for 1550/92.9 Delaware, OH in 2021 then they will engage the technology to sync the signals from my understanding.

That is what I was wondering ... who really gets the short end of the stick here, Delaware or Marysville? WDLR is clearly where Delmar concentrates the most effort and has been basically ever since WQTT went full automated. At one time, WQTT had more local programming than WDLR. Both stations had their own morning shows but WQTT also had Rick Rantz (later Ian Graham) live in the afternoon and even the Grand Dark Conspiracy overnight, broadcasting from those studios with the window front in downtown Marysville. That's been several years ago now.
Does WDLR now take over 1270 and 96.7 lock, stock and barrel while remaining a Delaware-focused station, or will they make a concerted effort to serve both Delaware and Union counties? 1270 and 96.7 are listenable in Delaware but hardly local signals.

Happy that Randy Malloy and his gang found their way back onto Central Ohio airwaves.

Not happy that the MY 92.9/Local 1550 format will no longer be on 1580. I really enjoyed it. No matter what they say about 1270, the signal is nowhere as strong in Central Ohio/Columbus that 1580 is.

Agree. It's as good an AM signal in Dublin and Hilliard as any of the Columbus sticks except 610, but not over the whole area. 96.7, you basically have to be in Dublin to hear that and even then it can take interference from the other LPFM on the frequency.

I know this is an old thread but I want to say they have done wonders with 92.9 Delaware/Columbus Translators.. I was picking up CD 92.9 south of Lancaster almost to Logan with very little static in the car!

Since their signal is heavy to the East, i'm not completely surprised
