CD101 moving?

If they sell 101.1, and really, there's no reason to keep it re: 102.5...maybe that's K-Love's entry into the market.

I hate to keep bringing that up, but EMF has made a lot of moves nearby (Pgh, Indy) and not touched C-bus. I wonder how much CVCO/River scares them off, or are they willing to make a lesser investment in a class A rimshot.

I am really shocked they haven't came to columbus truthfully. CCM has done well in this market since River went 24/7 CCM in the early 2k's. 102,5 would have been a great signal for EMF to pick up .. but they didn't. Their nearest stations are 98.7 Crestline/Mansfield/Marion and 102.3 Wilmington/Washington Court House.

Ofcourse, looking at WWCD 101.1s footprint... it would pick up where 102.3's signal drops off heading north to Columbus from SW Ohio....
 
Well, it does seem like EMF, and maybe a few other Christian organizations, are the most active buyers these days -- especially when it comes to less-than-full-market signals. There aren't many Roger Vaughans around. And the small number of mainstream groups that are making or considering a few cash purchases wouldn't be interested in entering Columbus with anything less than a full-market signal.

There are still some formatic canyons locally, but CC's flip at 106.7 delightfully broke the curse that said all of Columbus' yearning holes must remain unplugged, or at best filled by a mere peashooter instead of a reasonably-big stick.  At last, some satisfaction. ;D

If K-Love or Air 1 entered the market, it would make sense, but I'd rather listen to The River where it's live and local. I'd love to see a new CHR... it doesn't seem too much of a niche. It could steal some numbers from WNCI, especially programmed right - live and local. Is CHR a niche format for Columbus? I guess it's kinda like the point I made with K-Love. You have WNCI on a 175,000 watt stick - one of the best CHR's in the country, do you need another one? Only difference with NCI is... it's not live and local. :)

COLUMBUS, OH (wosu) - WOSU's Classical Music Service soon will move to a new frequency and expand to 24 hours a day.

WOSU Public Media today announced it has agreed to buy the FM signal 101.1 - now operated by CD 101.

Pending approval by the FCC, WOSU plans to convert 101.1 FM to new format - Classical Music 24 hours a day.

WOSU 89.7FM will become a 24-hour NPR news and Talk station.

CD 101's alternative music format will move to another frequency. Programming changes are expected to take place in the fall. © Copyright 2010, wosu

I don't seek out classical music, even though I enjoy hearing it once in awhile, especially at live performances or on TV. (While hardcore Classical fans might look down their noses Pachelbel's Cannon, I could listen to that over and over for hours.) But this is a creative and unexpected move. It should really delight classical fans, who have seen their radio options fading away on a national scale.
 
I was going to suggest European Classic Oldies, but I guess the announcement beat me to it.

Well, I was right though. Liberal talk will be on 89.7. Not with commercial stars though. Lol

Good for classical music fans. Not my thing, but I guess it's another option for radio in Central Ohio.
 
It's nice that the PPM ratings will include non-comms so that we can track all this, at least 12+ ... at least to the extent Arbitron doesn't embargo.

In the past WOSU-FM (and to a lesser extent AM) has done quite well, based on that source that makes non-comm diary ratings available.   Since WOSU has been largely talk for quite awhile, this brings up the sudden realization that non-conservative talk CAN do well.  (Note that I said "non-conservative," not "progressive" or "liberal."  Of course I'm sure some would label NPR liberal, in which case they are also saying that liberal talk can get ratings.)

Very likely 89.7 and 820 will be a permanent simulcast just like WBNS AM/FM.

Or 820 *could* simulcast 101.1's full-time classical format, as 820's night signal constraints to the south-west of Columbus could be easily filled in by 101.1's signal. Just a thought.
 
WWCD will take over 102.5 FM as of TONIGHT and are apparently slated to simulcast for at least the next 90 days, or until OSU's purchase of the 101.1 frequency clears. They have a page for this already set up at www.CD101.com/1025 .
