CD102.5 ARTICLE IN TODAY'S DISPATCH

How can a detailed article about the struggles of WWCD completely omit the last-minute reprieve on the sale to Salem about a year ago?? Also, it says that GM Randy Malloy "worked out a deal to become majority owner of WWCD, taking over from longtime owner Roger Vaughan." But doesn't Southeastern Ohio Broadcasting own WWCD? Is Malloy now a majority owner of SOB? And if so, how was that "taking over from...Vaughan?" I'm totally confused, although Dispatch articles often have a way of resulting in confusion, so in a way I'm not surprised. How could they write so much (much of which was admittedly very interesting), yet fail to cover the most salient facts regarding control of the station? It's still just an LMA from SOB, no?

Randy owns Fun With Radio LLC, which Leases the 102.5 broadcast facilities from SOUTHEASTERN OHIO BROADCASTING SYSTEM, INC. The building, and everything that makes them WWCD is owned by Fun with Radio.

and as far as Salem taking over last year, Yes they tried but i think alot of that Hype was created here on this board. WWCD held a Lease and despite all the problems i have a feeling they were protected in that contract.

"Nudged out of the top 10?" The only reason they were in the top 10 is because the ratings don't show stations that are rated higher than WWCD, but yet aren't visible because they don't subscribe to Arbitron (two examples being Sunny 95 and 97.1 The Fan).

Good point. Was WWCD ever in the top ten back when all of the stations were included in the published ratings? And if so, what was its highest-ever position, and best-ever rating? I know we've got two or three people on this board who don't mind (and perhaps even enjoy) looking into those sorts of things, but I am not one of them.

So much of the article was sloppy, fuzzy, questionable and non-germane, so why should Feran bother trying to be accurate re ranking -- including explaining what "top ten" really means?  Quickly leafing through the old ratings back to the end of 2010, I can find only 2 times when WWCD managed to climb into the top 10 -- as #10.  And that is only after non-subscribers stopped being listed publicly, so in reality they were never in the top 10 6+.  In the complete rankings they have landed from about 13th to 20th, most often in the 14-15 vicinity.  Disclaimer:  This was a quick, and thus possibly imprecise, analysis.  So maybe the Dispatch will try to hire me (not that they by any means have a lock on sloppy or fact-challenged media...)
