Cecilia Vega ABC 7 (KGO-TV)

It's been a long time since anybody posted a note (positive or negative) about a Bay Area TV anchor or reporter, so I decided to post a positive one about Cecilia Vega, who is new to ABC7 News, and new to TV.

I was really impressed by her coverage of the Johanes Mehserle verdict, which she reported from in front of the courthouse in Los Angeles. She's poised, and cool under pressure (it was a somewhat unruly crowd she was in). She's very articulate, she talked live and extemporaneously with no fumbles or hesitations. I thought her coverage was much more impressive than that of KGO-TVs other reporter on the scene, who is a veteran TV reporter with at least a decade of experience.

On top of that, she's not just a TV person, but what the snobs would call a "real" journalist, with ten years experience at the SF Chronicle, and other newspapers. At the Chronicle, she broke many important local stories, including the news of Mayor Newsom's affair with a staffer.

Oh yeah, at the result of being called sexist, I have to also note that she's really easy on the eyes. I think she's a future star of TV news, if that's what she wants.

Don't recall if she was on KTVU, but I am certain that during her Chronicle days she did a number of appearances on Belva Davis' "This Week" on KQED.

I've watched KTVU news frequently over the years, and I don't recall Vega ever working for that station. Her bio indicates that she came to KGO-TV from the Chronicle, and doesn't list any other TV reporting experience.

Having said that - I suspect Tom is correct that she appeared on Belva Davis's show, and possibly some other local public affairs shows that typically have newspaper reporters on.
