Holy COW!!! 98.1 KHAK runs away with the book!!! Congratulations to the entire staff with the mighty K-Hawk. WOW, what great numbers!!! 12+ and all across the board. Double digit lead over 2nd place.

Elsewhere... the rest of the book (12+) was a battle for 3rd place as Z102.9 was 2nd but down.

KKRQ looked to take a hit as well as WMT-AM.

KMRY & WMT-FM were up. KDAT stayed steady. Christmas music now starts on the first day of school here in 2 weeks.

KRNA & KFMW tied for the battle of Today's Rock

KRQN 60's & 70's rock-roll hits came out of the box good for not having any numbers last year as oldies Country KROJ.

KCRG-AM down slightly... Norton to the rescue now

KOKZ down in CR but heard that they went up in Waterloo in their home market. Comments from up North???

KCJJ not even on the radar... too busy with kicking KCRG's coverage of the tornado back in April. It's a joke, please don't respond Tommy and tell us how cocky you felt. Enjoy your beers with Bruce on your web site!

Everyone enjoy your time off now... Fall books starts in about a month!!!

*sigh*

You're never going to let it go, are you?

KCJJ serves Iowa City/Coralville/North Liberty. We dovote ZERO time or effort to Cedar Rapids.
In the end, there are more important things than how you show up in Arbitron's Cedar Rapids metro numbers.
For example, there's this green stuff you buy things with. If a lot of people give it to you instead of hemorrhaging it, you don't need to get rid of things (helicopters, radio stations, staff, etc).

Congrats to KHAK, BTW. Good to see Bob James, Bear and Brain, Dawn Johnson, etc. doing well.

I absolutely LOVE how Tommy Lang posts how the big thing for the "mighty" KCJJ isn't the ratings...it's the money!! LOL!! Seriously...how many drugs does Captain Steve give his employees to brainwash them into believing that they're making so much money?? Where does all the money go that KCJJ brings in? Maybe it's their gorgeous, state of the art studios (AM stereo? who cares...who can tell?) or perhaps it's their GIANT cash give aways of $16.30!! Yeah...that's gotta be it! If there is money just being thrown at KCJJ for advertising, then where is it going? Does Tommy Lang have a $300,000 house he's living in? Or is he still living in his parent's basement? How could Bradman leave such a lucrative job??? Why can't Captain Steve afford better prizes and equipment for his "goldmine" of a station??

I call for Captain Steve to publicly reveal how much money his station made in 2005. Put your money where your mouth is KCJJ. (BTW - I am ready for the KCJJ staff to bad mouth and try to humiliate me now...all the while dodging my questions and requests.)

Speaking of "up north", does anyone know why Cumulus keeps embargoing (is that a word?) the numbers? Are they afraid of what other people will find out? I don't think they need to be, do they?

"Norton to the rescue" :D ;D ;D ;D ;D:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

He lost about 25% of his FM audience in the past year.

He's got tower troubles out the wazzoo with his newest toy, 1600AM. That is the main reason he and Keller only paid $775,000 for the station.

These are the moments when Norton shines. He'll start screaming and threatening and throwing things, while generally abusing people until they cry or quit.

Then he leaves to follow the Redskins and let the staff clean up his mess.

BTW, great job KHAK. Another well earned book. You guys are humming along.

Stickman, KCJJ may surprise you in the near future. Stay tuned for further details.

Lang is right. They don't need or expect Linn County numbers. They seem to do fine with the system they have in place.

Embargoes are done by Arbitron, not radio companies. Their embargoes withhold numbers from the trade press, and release them only to subscribers.

Cumulus could, of course, attempt to keep their own employees from divulging bad news, but if what's going on is an "embargo," it's from Arbitron, not a radio ownership.

thanks for the info. sounds like arbitron his hard up for the cash!

No, more like some non-subscriber is using them. That's usually why markets get embargoed.

Hey [EDIT*]....I thought we might finally find some common ground! I notice you slyly avoided mentioning your results. Your beloved 100.7 felt the pinch just as bad as Norton. You never miss an opportunity to belittle the beligerent. I think you guys should have done better than the almighty Arbitron claims you did. Great talent. Great music. Your prediction that KRNA would blow even harder was wrong. [EDIT**]

[EDIT*=name calling][EDIT**=vulgar]

100.7 did just fine. They have no challengers and will continue to dominate their target audience for years to come. You are extremely misguided, rest assured.

All of you Norton apologists need to keep one thing in mind. Your day will come when Norton will leave you twisting in the wind, just like all the other suck ups who fell out of favor eventually.

He is the Stalin of eastern Iowa radio. He leaves a bloody trail of deceit and destruction behind him. The word LOYALTY does not compute in his mind.

You WILL be next.

Seriously, how long can two guys in their mid fifties continue to do morning radio and deliver the 12-34 female audience? How long can one fat, balding, near-sighted, bi-polar control freak, in his late fifties, continue to program hip-hop/urban/top twenty radio in eastern Iowa?

And how is one doofus who never participated in a single athletic event in his life going to successfully program an all sports station? The most exercise this obese example of midwestern fare has ever gotten is to struggle to pull up his pants and zip them.

The Hounds Of Hell are on fast on his trail. The end is near. Where will you be on the day of reckoning?

Funny is right. 100.7 TANKED....and no one mentions that! Hmmm....are we to suppose than that everyone who didn't mention the big turd left by the Fox is employed by CC? Oh yeah, and not to toot my own horn (because I did miss the mark on the KHAK prediction) but I did say that the Fox would slip and KRNA would regain some ground.

And as far as Rob Norton is concerned, it amazes me that you people aren't a little scared of this guy. He's gonna be pissed now and plug EVEN MORE money into promotions and advertising. He's like David Koresh with an HD signal...and that makes me nervous.

And whoever said, I should be on the lookout for KCJJ because they may surprise me...I doubt it.

The Stick

In regards to [EDIT] saying tha the Fox did "just fine" (??????) I certainly hope the Fox continues to do "just fine" in the next several books. When the audience shrinks as much as theirs did this time around, two to three more books like that and they'll be battling the "mighty" KCJJ for the cellar dwellar awards.

The Stick

Stinkman, you have some issues with reality. And some issues with spelling and proper punctuation.

And some serious hatred for KKRQ. Why is that? Have they been beating you like the red headed stepson that you are? [EDIT]

Any rational thinker knows that classic rock numbers go up and down. Clear Channel will right the ship, as will Scott McGill. This is his first book as pd.

[EDIT=ad hominem attack]

Well, the rest of the Arbitron numbers are out this morning, and the big winner is still KHAK. They dominate virtually each daypart and each demo target.

The biggest loser is indeed Norton and KZIA. I know, I know, it's redundant to type that, but it feels so good to do so. His rap/hip hop/urban move earlier this year obviously didn't go over well in eastern Iowa.

He is tied for fourth 25-54. He is a very distant second place in 18-34. [EDIT]

Congrats again go out to the KHAK folks, who so richly deserve the rewards of running a class operation.

[EDIT=ad hominem attack]

Cumulus doesn't embargo the market - Arbitron does because there is a station (KCVM-FM, Mix 96) that doesn't subscribe. That's why the market is embargoed...so I've heard.

Micheal, any report that you can give us from up North without giving the actual numbers?

Arb

Arbitron doesn't embargo a market because someone doesn't subscribe - only if no one subscribes or someone is using the numbers without being authorized to do so. I'd say the latter is the reason.

Well, well, well....it appears the Stick knew what he was talking about after all. Did I not say that for the most part the Cumulus cluster would clean up in Waterloo/CF and Bahakel would continue to flounder?! Amazing how a person like me, who, according to some, has NO IDEA what he is talking about, continues to be right on the money. It must suck to be someone like [EDIT*]who does nothing but bad mouth someone (Rob Norton) and still shows his lack of radio knowledge by saying that "all classic rock stations go up and down in the ratings."

Take note, [EDIT*], KCRR (a classic rocker) remained flat in Waterloo after several good books. The Fox LOST HALF THEIR AUDIENCE IN SOME DAYPARTS. Yet you continue to bash Rob Norton. "career" [EDIT**] So now he holds a mega grudge.

As far as the stations in Waterloo...anyone have any idea what to do with the flailing Bahakel stations that continue to lose steam. Yeah, KFMW showed SMALL gains....but it's FAR from the powerhouse it was 4-5 years ago. Who is to blame? What should be done? Will the owners see the sinking ship and decide to bail out and sell before the red ink REALLY starts flowing???? Can you blame them???

The Stick

PS - Feel free to comment not on the substance of my post [EDIT]...but on the punctuation and spelling.
