Celebrating 30 Years of Kiss 95.1

As of this month of May, 2026 they are celebrating 30 years of WNKS-Kiss 95.1, as The Number 1 Hit Music Station. Job well done to establish and maintain a long running successful format for 30 years. Notable hosts were Ace and TJ in the mornings and Adam Smasher in the afternoon.

Previously they were 95Q-WROQ rock format and simulcast Murphy in the Morning from 610-Big WAYS, and WCNC weatherman Larry Sprinkle was a participant. A few format changes later they became Kiss 95.1 in 1996. Good long run. And they usually win the ratings contest ahead of WHQC-Hits 96.1, swapping back and forth with Ace and TJ.
 
First song played on Kiss 95.1 was Hootie & The Blowfish "I Go Blind". Funny thing before the flip a goof up happened. They were promoting a live remote and instead of saying join 95.1 The Edge a spot ran saying join The New Kiss 95.1. Before they stunted with Prince, and Tom Jones versions of "Kiss" i knew what was coming.
