Cell Phone Remote Unit

Any suggestions on an affordable cell phone unit for broadcasting games and other remotes? It would be a nice standby when a codec unit can’t be utilized. I really don’t like using a cell phone for broadcast but it is sometimes a necessary evil.

You can buy a bluetooth dongle with a mini phono jack that will pair with just about any modern cellphone. I've used the now-discontinued GBMA 211 from IOGEAR on one setup and have been reasonably happy with it. There are several similar devices that are still in production, but I can't vouch for them.

The bluetooth dongle sounds nice. On ballgames - we would need a mixer for a two person crew. Any suggestions on a remote cell phone unit that includes at least two mic inputs?

We use a cell phone that AT & T sells as a home phone substitute. It looks like a router and we plug a JK Audio Remote Mix box into it for a mixer. The whole rig can run on batteries and the cell phone works better than a regular cell phone. The phone actually gives us a dial tone on the Remote Mix box.

There are a few options. The JK RemoteMix is nice and fairly simple and the new one has bluetooth capability. We use an older one. We also have a couple of Conex FlipJacks the little one with 2 inputs and the FJ-700 with 4 inputs. My personal favorite is our good old Zercom ZMax (4 Channel) and ZMax II (2 Channel). They don't make the Zercoms anymore but you can still find them from time to time fairly cheap and you'll need a JK Daptor for the cell phone. On the the 4 Channel you also have to disable the line loss sensor. Good luck in your search!

We have every piece of equipment you mentioned, including a Zmax 2 & 4 channel and the Daptor. The base station type cell phone I mentioned above is a winning addition for sure
