CELLPHONE ANTENNA SIGNAL BOOSTERS

I've been seeing ads that cellphone antenna boosters can amplify radio and TV signals. Is this actually true? And if it is, where do you place the booster on the radio and/or TV to make it effective?

Snake oil. Waste of money. Scam. The ONLY indoor antenna I have ever found with a degree of gain is the Godar. And for AM the Terk AM Advantage and similar loops. Amplified antennas are a scam no matter who supposedly designed the things.

Are these even amplified antennas? I'll bet what we're talking about here are those silly pieces of plastic with that super-duper-ultra-scientific foil pattern printed on them, you know, the commercials where people would stick the "antenna booster" BEHIND THE BATTERY, then put the battery back in, and HOLY COW I'VE GOT FIVE BARS NOW! Worse than snake oil... Ranks right up there with muffler bearings, and turn signal fluid.

So, now all the idiots who got roped into pyramid sales schemes to resell these pieces of useless film are trying to recoup their losses by saying these work "just as well" for AM, FM and TV?!? Hah! All the more power to 'em!

I worked in the Marketing area of a company that manufacturers the antennas that go at the top of cell phone towers, usually on the sides of a triangular crows nest. I had access to the geniuses back in the "skunk works" where they dreamed up new ideas for antennas. Very competitive market.

One of the newly developing product lines at the time was to come up with repeaters that would allow people in shopping centers, airport terminals, subways, etc to use their phones. Another area of exploration was tiny little one-person/one-office types that were out in the country, in their lake home or mountain cabin still be able to use their cell phone. These were the geniuses. Never found a one of them who had the first good word to say about these boosters you are asking about.
