Celtics (and Broadcast Rights)

With Kevin Garnett coming to the Celtics, might we see some over-the-air broadcasts of Celts games this season?

I know that the contract with FOX Sports (soon to become Comcast) included a section on over-the-air partnerships for as much as a third of the schedule. Might an independent station -- like TV38 -- pick-up some games now that interest will be much greater than it has in recent memory?

Not happening. FSN New England soon to be Comcast North will be looking to build their network around the Celtics. For once they have a shot of competing with NESN, because no one will be watching the Bruins this winter. They want every game possible, as it now stands they will lose some games to TNT and ABC for national television.

Why Comcast North? Not Comcast SportsNet New England? I like watching FSN New England at 10 or 10:30. I switch from NESN after the Sox are over. I'm a transplant down in South Jersey right outside Philly and I have DirecTv for these 2 stations and Sunday Ticket. I don't watch CSN Philly.

Only on ABC ( Late in The Basketball season on Sundays )

Ask a stupid question . . .

The answer is NO! NBA telecasts are now mainly cable/satellite. There are a few exceptions, notably with "ESPN on ABC".

TV38 is a CBS O&O. CBS is NOT going to get into bed with Fox or Comcast when it comes to content.

KCAL/Los Angeles, a CBS O&O airs Lakers away games; FSN West airs Lakers home games. It's not that out of the question.

The Knicks are strictly cable/satellite on MSG Network and FSN New York. The Nets are mainly cable/satellite on YES; they get bumped to OTA station My9NY only if there's an overlap with Yankees baseball.

Expect the Celtics to be strictly cable/satellite on FSN/CSN New England.

CW57 in Philly is CBS O&O. They have Phillies, Sixers, and Flyers games on that are produced by Comcast SportsNet Philly.

The same people that were watching the Bruins last year, will be watching them this year.

Comcast SportsNet (New England) will still broadcast Sports Tonight along with expanded local sports news coverage. As far as the broadcasts, they have the rights locked up for a lot of years.
