Central PA Radio "Reunion Party"

I don't know if this has ever been discussed before (or even maybe already done, but I missed it): What kind of response would there be to a "party", "Get-together", whatever you want to call it, of Central PA radio "veterans"...you would have to have worked in the market from say, 1970-present. It would be held in a hotel ballroom, firehall, wherever a place large enough could be rented and it would give us all the opportunity to "see" each other and trade stories/history face-to-face for an evening.

A minimal charge would be asked for in order to cover the cost of the room, eats, beverages (this would not be a money-making venture).

Anyone think this could fly?? Or would there be no interest?? Just a thought....

It's a cool idea, Danny. Twenty dollars per person (or thirty per couple) might be a decent donation.

On Second Thought... It's not a cool idea, Danny. There would be no interest in such an event.

Too much stabbing in the backs for anyone in this industry to enjoy themselves at such an event.

Your event may have 300 plus attendees, but almost every single one would be waiting for someone else to speak first, as it is with this forum.

I was shocked that this solicitation did not receive any replies indicating any interest whatsoever. How unfortunate.

Aw c’mon. You know what a get together like that would be like: a bunch of old veterans sitting around swapping war stories about A) the most head-up-his-ass GM, B) the laziest Chief Engineer, C) the most clueless Account Executive, D) the time we interviewed Alice Cooper/Steven Tyler/Merle Haggard, and E) how wonderful things were in the “mom and pop” days. No one would listen to anyone else; all the time we’d be thinking about how to one-up each other with our own “Well let me tell you about the time…” story. As the evening wore on and the alcohol flowed, everyone would rehash their own tale of “the time the record stuck/ran out/tape broke when I was in the bathroom.” The night would end on a solemn note, with a quote from WABC's legendary Dan Ingram, who when asked what was the most important thing he ever learned in radio, replied “How to take a crap in two minutes.” Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about it. :D

hey john, here's on better yet...i've heard the day the station was sold to a competitor management was coming in to make me pd...i retorted. i got you be ...they were going to make me vp of programming. what did bruce springsteen sing???"glory days they will pass you by" too funny. on the other hand it would be nice to meet and greet some people we crossed paths with.

Okay, this might just be me, but this makes me think of one really huge station Christmas party. You know... when a bunch of radio people get together to celebrate the season and end up talking about... radio. Personally, I don't think I could take four or five hours of shop talk with 300 people, 250 (give or take) of which I don't know. Yes, it would be fun to catch up with old friends, but we can do that with individual station reunions (or a big party at Michael Parks' house), can't we? And with a lot less EGO wars. Let's not lie to ourselves; a reunion party of personalities from all over Central PA would almost be mental torture. Plus, while we can all think of five people that we can't wait to see again, we can also think of ten that would make us want to run for the exit (and don't ask me to name names!).

Basically, the idea has great intentions, but it's just not realistic. First, if it were held indoors, the combined egos would eventually make the walls collapse and trigger a terror alert.

;D

So when there is a KOOL 94.9 reunion, I'm there. Again, that's just me. That doesn't make this a bad idea, just, IMO, an unrealistic idea.

Anyone for a Sunny99 reunion? Hmm... where's Bob Paiva these days? Could we stand an evening with Brian Danzis? Oo... scary.

:p

scoot one of our friends from the past told me his air name used to be brian daniels "freedom for the stallions" and his airchecks were less than stellar. that is second hand however.
