This will sound like a dumb question, so don't yell at me. How does Harrisburg/York/Lancaster qualify as Central Pennsylvania? Harrisburg is about an hour from the Maryland line..it's south, hardly central. It seems to me that "central" Pennsylvania would be literraly in the center of the state, like Clearfield, or State College, or someplace dead center along lonely route 80.
 
I've often wondered the same thing myself. Even more puzzling is the use of the term "Mid State".
How can Harrisburg-York-Lancaster be considered "Mid State"?
It makes no sense to me.
If you measure the respective distances from the true mid-state area, which is the aptly named Centre County, then Wilkes Barre-Scranton could call themselves "Mid State", instead of North East Pennsylvania.

I think the problem is the large population centers in Phila. and Pittsburgh, and "Mid State" is just a way of saying we're not either of those places.
 
I'm not native to PA, but as a transplanted Marylander by way of Hawaii, I'll give it a shot...

Pittsburgh is in the western part of the state, Philly in the east... We are kind of in the middle. Hence Central Pa.

I'm sure there is a more mystical, perhaps even a more accurate assesment of the "Central Pa" stigma out there..
 
Everyone and everything defines Central PA differently, but its basically everything that's not in Philly, Pittsburgh or Erie. If you start cutting it up into Harrisburg, Hershey, Lancaster, State College, etc. those areas become such tiny markets that you couldn't draw enough interest to keep a spot on a site like this.

Really? The city of Binghamton, NY is a LOT smaller than Harrisburg or Lancaster, and they have their own space on this board.
