Century 21 Programming

I am still in contact with Dave Scott and I will ask him for you, provided it doesn't result in another one of your novel-length posts.

Well, I just got off the phone with Dave and the answer is: None of the above.

Century 21 hired Ken Kraft away from TM to produce those formats.
Very interesting. That is someone I am not familiar with. Oh how many years I have tried to figure that out and was unable to get anyone to return my calls and messages. Thank you very much!

I'm sure you know that in 1984 they turned over their few Beautiful clients to Tom Churchill. Then a few years later, as part of their Gold Disc series, they had some devoted to Beautiful Music which almost as soon as they were released became collector's items.

Thank you for your kind inquiry on my behalf. And please thank Mr. Scott.

The infamous GD 64-79 “Easy Instrumentals” series.

Fun detail, all the artist synonyms are those seen on Kalamusic, not TM Communications. I’ve always found that intriguing. Reason? Kalamusic was still in the game in 1988-1989 when TM Century produced those GDs, perhaps they were made with Kalamusic clients in mind? Or was it some other reason?

The same exclusive material is across both TM Communications and Kalamusic except for some small groupings of GM and Ben McPeek. Then again even those show on TM as well. TM cut the 900 series reels with mostly the newer GM materials and a few Canadian Talent cuts after 1985 and then they were suddenly in 1986 The Programming Consultant's.

Synonyms such as on my TM reel archive dating 1981-1983, TM Orchestra which is Bill Loose GMC, some in a rechanneled echo stereo on TM reels, is Fairfield Orchestra, FBC, etc on the GDs I find on my archive of Kalamusic reels 1981-1987. The sources for the GDs came from Kalamusic, not TM Communications? Did TM purge all that stuff and they needed Kalamusic’s tapes in 1988 when producing the GDs?

While on that subject a fellow named Ralph Riley at TM Century back in 1991, mentioned a local Dallas guy took all the Beautiful Music materials from TM and attempted to start another service. Was this what became Alternative Programming in Dallas?

Yes, trivial but worth a thought. The GDs are rather scarce and I have 3 sets here personally, one with a full license for 99 years started in 1991, and 2 others from various sources.

A guy on eBay is selling a complete set of GDs for some 10k, 64-79 is included so there is your chance.

I might have known that you would have those! Hi Erik. Both TM Programming and Kala belonged to the IBMA in the 80s for which the Fairfield guys produced some custom sessions. Are you saying that some of these appear on the GDs?
